The l9L8 football season at Waldport found the Lincoln County champs without the services of several outstanding football players of the previous year. When Coach Erikson called opening practice, six let- termen, four transfers and a group of green, inexperienced hopefuls, greeted him. The season turned out to be an average one as the Irish picked up two wins, dropped three games, and played two scoreless ties. The final game of the season proved to be the best game of the year where the WGreen and White machinen rolled to a very impressive 25 to 2 victory over Siuslaw. Sixteen boys had enough playing time to receive let- ters. Graduating seniors are: Darwin Christ, Kenny Rolph, Lloyd Hyde and Ron Ridenour. Three boys - Milton Ye men, Norman Wibbenhorst and Rollie Overlander - joined the arm- ed forces immediately after the season. Those who will be returning for another campaign will include Keith Peterson, Greg Cox, Bill Kanehl, Darrell Helms, Mike Jensen, Jerry Yeoman, Johnny Wells, and Frank Hagey. The remaining letterman was Hugh Mulloy, who moved shortly after the season came to a close.
