Q - X SENICB CLASS HISTORY on one bright sunny day in September, 19145, twenty-three ignorant Rocks straggled into Waldport High School, too worried about the ferocious appearing upperclaemen to look ahead through the years to the day they would be looked up to as polished seniors. The surviving members of that Rook class number seven. They are s Thelma Boysen, Joyce Buker, Ann Hays, LaVonne Leek, llarie lelson, Lloyed Hockem, Hilton Ieomn, Daruin Christ, and Bonnie Petrick. In our sophomore year we-slightly-more-polished people were joined by Lloyd Hyde, lary Thompson, Holly Lira, and Shirley Kofiinnis. lhen we again aseenbled, this time for our Junior year, we added to our roll Jeanine latkins, and Hilton Olsen. Ron Bidenour came in January, and in February Dennis and Alice Slonecker and Chester French joined the class. le put on an all girl play, titled 'On Account of Larry, in order to make money for the banquet and prom, which tradition allowed us the privelege UD of giving for the seniors. However, the play didn't pan out too well, from a financial stand- point, so we gave the banquet and prom mostly on our good looks , with the help of lies llese and our mothers. Finally in Septewer, 19148, the long awaited day arrived! le strolled casually into laldport High School, stifling our yawns of boredom, from the position of polished seniors, we looked down cn those lowly creatures known as Hooks. le found three people to Join us in our yawns-Kenneth Rolph, Norman libbenhorst, and Don lanlees. Norman, however, stayed with us only until Christmas, when he, Hilton Yeoman and Bonnie Patrick, who has been our presi- dent through most of our class journey, joined the armed forces. As ue, the now polished Senior class, look back through the last four years, we're sure that no other class could have had as much fun, despite our little ups and downs, in four years. But we sincerely hope they do, because they'll be missing out on a wonderful pert of their lives, if they don't. THE END ' -04.441, .. . I lu: l W UXf W7 ,r K I . lv i 5. - ' ! 5 4. When Coach Erikson called opening practice, six let- termen, four transfers and a group of green, inexperienced hopefuls, greeted him. The season turned out to be an average one as the Irish picked up two wins, dropped three games, and played two scoreless ties. The final game of the season proved to be the best game of the year where the WGreen and White machinen rolled to a very impressive 25 to 2 victory over Siuslaw. Sixteen boys had enough playing time to receive let- ters. Graduating seniors are: Darwin Christ, Kenny Rolph, Lloyd Hyde and Ron Ridenour. Three boys - Milton Ye men, Norman Wibbenhorst and Rollie Overlander - joined the arm- ed forces immediately after the season. Those who will be returning for another campaign will include Keith Peterson, Greg Cox, Bill Kanehl, Darrell Helms, Mike Jensen, Jerry Yeoman, Johnny Wells, and Frank Hagey. The remaining letterman was Hugh Mulloy, who moved shortly after the season came to a close. Reserves were Wenless, French, and M. Jensen. Coach Hrikson stuck to this quintet throughout the season with the exception of e few injuries near the end of the season. Highlight of the season was an important victory over the rival Siletz team in a game for the Lincoln County Championship. This victory insured the Irish of a berth in the District Tournament. The Irish journeyed to Junction City where they met Alsea in the opening Same Of the Tournament. The Irish, who had previously beet the Alsea quintet, lost by a slim two points. Alsea later went on to place runner-up in the State Tournament. The final game of the season the Irish fell before a powerful Maple- ton team. w31dP'1I t Waldport Waldport Taldport Waldport Waldport Waldport Waldport Wildport Waldport Waldport waldport Waldport Waldport Waldport BASKETEALL SCTRES Toledo Siuslew Taft Siletz Taft Alsea Newport Eddyville Newport Siletz Toledo Eddyville Siuslaw DISTRICT SCORES Alsea Mapleton 95 gui as-I hug, ...-v-A' ,,...----' -o ' ., 1 vnu-q-...Q .15 Frwnt, row- Li. ' BASEBALL When the baseball season came around this year it was doubtful as to the prowess of the team, but with the returning lettermen and the first year men the prospects looked better. The returning letter-men ere Darwin Christ, Lloyd Hyde, Ron Ridenour, and a sophomore, Rodney Jensen. So far in the season, the Irish, with their new unifoms ,have played only one practice game in order to get our pitchers and team members used to the strain - we were defeated 16-7 by Newport. VOLLEYBALL The Colleens enjoyed a fairly successful season in volleyball this year- having won six of twelve games. There were eight girls returning from last yesr's team, they included Louise Tingley, Doris Harper, Joan Goodman, Dorothy Thissell, Pat lells, Betty Laudenbeok, Leola Ted:-ow, and Anna Lyons. New team members consisted of Agues Slonecker, Gertrude Schwanke, Janet Blackman, Alice Slonecker, and lands Diggs. Since there was only one senior, Alice Slonecker, on this yeer's squad the prospects for a successful tees next year are very promising. laldport 19 Toledo wuapon.
