CO-ED DORM INTRODUCE5 CHANGES jacob Tanner Hall, for the first time a co-ed dorm, was the scene of many new and different situations and happenings. A sense of loyalty to the dorm was perceived because of the challenge to make it work. Lots of problems arose but Mr. and Mrs. Richard Arneson, Tanner's Ma and Pa, helped solve them and it did work. One of the many happenings of Tanner Hall was a slave auction held in the lounge just before Christmas. The South girls were auctioned off to the North guys for a two hour work period one Thursday night after hours. Bids on anonymous descriptions of the girls started at fifty cents and went as high as twenty dollars. Girls scrubbed floors, dusted, made beds, decorated for Christmas, sewed on buttons, and cleaned drawers, windows and closets. Proceeds from the sale were used to buy carpeting for the lounge.
