F O O T B A L L Even before school started, the football team began practice ses- sionsg this year under Mr. Boyden and Mr. Hill. The opening game was played here on Friday afternoon, Sept. 18, against Vermilion. Vermil- 1on's more seasoned squad handed the fellows a 27-0 defeat, but they kept practicing, playing, and improving. Although they lost some pretty close contests, they triumphed over Lodi 18-15 to wind up the season. After a four game slump, the boys again picked up steam and chalked up victories for the next six out of seven games. They dropped two games to Monroeville ard New Haven and though playing a terrific game, lost to North Fairfield to close the season with an 8-ll record. During the Christmas holidays, Wakeman, Milan, Berlin Hts., and Vermilion participated in a holiday tournament. The T-W squad whipped Berlin Hts. the first night but were out played 55-58 by Vermilion in the finals. At the Huron Co. tournament held at New London, Wakeman drew a bye for the first round, and lost a heart-breaker to New london 57-58 in the semi-finals. New london slipped by Monroeville 47-45 to win the tournament. Seniors led the scoring this year. Fred Palmer dropped in 275 points, Larry Becker 155, and Bob Carey 154. Other Seniors who will be leaving the team are: Bob Burke, Dick Mahl, and John Treiber. The Reserve team, under Mr. Boyden, had a terrific season. Led in scoring by Garry Tillson, with 175 points, Jim Robinson with 155, and Bill Jackson with 87, they tromped over their opponents to end up with a 15-5 record.
