1970 WAK-IGH-AN Wakelon High School Zebulon, North Carolina SCHOLARSHIP. a -9 Q 1 W ATHLETICSi o. w N Editor: Mary Jane Olive Business Manager: Mary Lou Pippin An August blast-off lifted us, the student body, into orbit for the 1969-70 school year. During our eventful journey we travelled many miles experiencing moments of joy, sorrow, excitement, and achievement. Our dreams and goals seemed as miraculous as the unbelievable walking of man on the moon. At various times all of us found ourselves stumbling in craters of perplexing problems and situations. However, with the courage, determination, and spirit characteristic of today’s vivacious youtli, we successfully explored many new horizons. We have made many footsteps around Wakelon this year in an effort to meet the challenges of education. 2 Contents Page Personalities.5 Student Life.11 Upperclassmen.23 Activities.51 Athletics.71 Lowerclassmen.83 Advertisements.109 DEDICATED TO 1970 SENIOR CLASS Graduation always marks the beginning of a eompletely new life for members of any class. 11ns is a giant step in their lives. Hot Point Zenith Maytag We Service What We Sell The WAK-IGH-AN Stuff of VVakelon High School expresses sincere appreciation to Illinois Tool Works for its generous contribution for service rendered by six staff members at the HICONE Open House. 141 Another year has elapsed Now, Mr. Roberson, don’t get emotional! A Christinas project of collecting food for needy families promotes competition among classes. 142 Eddy gets a quick start in hopes of gaining the lead. Out goes the Senior and in comes the Freshman. 143 And our footsteps lead us on . . . Our splashdown comes as the close of another year descends upon us. Fulfilled purposes, high ideals, and a sincere respect for the things that surround us are only a few accomplishments that we have gained here through the years. In the future all of us must find our places in a rapidly changing world. We hope that the small steps which we have made around dear of Wakelon will enable us to become a part of a future “giant leap for mankind.” Mary Jane Olive, Editor 144 S. ♦n ' fj i. [bJ r m. !r.
