We went on with Miss Mary Barrow and Miss Batchlor as engineers. The next year we took up the study of geography under our engineers, Mrs. Helen Gregory and Miss Thomp- son. Miss Annie Lou Austin was our only new engineer in the fifth grade where we beganthestudy of history and also began to wonder if the journey would ever end. Mrs. Gregory remained with us while we journeyed on into far away places. We found ourselves with two new engineers the sixth year, Mrs. Anderson and Miss Rebecca Marley. Soon we reached the junior high point. Under the able leadership of our engineers, Mrs. Falc Bunn and Mrs. Horton, we finished the seventh grade and now had to go oneto the eighth grade. This year Mrs. Flossie Knott and Mrs. Julia Johnston were our engineers. Now we had reached the point at which we were to change trains in order to reach our des- tination, Wisdom. One September morning in 1948 we stepped aboard the High School Train to complete our journey. When we arrived, we found Miss Frances Thackston and Mr. Jake Smith were to be our engineers. We feel sorry for them now as we realize how new and inexperienced we were on that first journey. We leamed fast, however, and continued our journey with only one engineer, Mrs. Doris Privette, This year we enjoyed our stop at the Junior-Senior banquet where a few of our girls served as both waitresses and entertainers. The journey had to continue, so we went on with Mrs. Privette still with us as engineer. We were now jolly Juniors. There were quite a lot of exciting moments that year, one of which was the night that we were host to the Seniors at the annual Junior-Senior banquet. Another was the night we gave our Junior play. It was the first public acting that we had done, but it turned out swell. The highlight of the year, however, was the day that we got our class rings. Every Junior you saw that day had his hand in the air! Although it was a lot of fun, the train had to move on with us with it. We lost a lot of our riders then. Some of them just dropped out, and others decided to make a home of their own. The rest of us had to keep going, however. September 5, 1951, with Mrs. Privette still engineering, we found-ourselves marching down the aisle at the station, Wakelon. When we saw all the other travelers standing for us as we took the front seats, we knew that in nine months our journey would end. We really enjoyed that year with all of our 'Senior privileges. We enjoyed the banquet given us by the Juniors. We'l1 never forget the wonderful Senior play that we gave. Most of all we enjoyed our trip to Washington. We finally come to the end of our long, twelve years journey and get our diplomas and hope we have neared our destination, Wisdom. Though we leave the High School Train bound for Wisdom we realize that our destination has not been reached. We shall always continue on the Wisdom Train and strive for our ultimate goal, Knowledge. Along the way we can recall quite a few exciting moments like the day Rena, Jean, and Gloria had to put their noses in a circle drawn on the back steps of the high school building: in the fifth grade when we were forbidden to play a game we called King and Queen since we al- ways ended up witha quarrel over whowould be guard of honor or body guard to the queen, lean Robertson: the night Patsy, Artelia. and Rena spent with Betty Jean. They were going to get up an economics report, but we hear they were drinking Pepsi-Colas at 2:30 a. m. Anyway they came to school the next morningsleepily singing, 'Pepsi-Cola Hits the Spot gthe day that Sis got her school bus driver's license. No one seemed to believe her: the day that Miss Thackston said the fog in Londonwas so thick that youcould cut itwith a knife and Charles Finch believed her: all those solemn looks Bobby Gill had during his Senior yearg the day Joyce Young spilled orange juice on Mrs. Knott's head in the lunch room: all those times Bettie Lou was afraid to sit on the ground. She was afraid that she would get her dress dirty. The day that we heard that a former member of our class, Fay Privette fMrs. Ed Ehriey, had a seven pound baby girlg how popular Ned was the day he got his new car. All the girls begged for a chance to ride with him. All of it was very exciting - these have been just a few of the high lights. Now that our high school joumey is over, and we are forced to go on alone, we wish to thank our parents, and teachers, and everyone who has. helped us along our way. The high school journey is over, but each of us will go on and strive to reach nearer and nearer to our destination, Wisdom. RENA MOODY Class Historian CLASS FLOW!!! To our principal, Mr, Whittenton, we leave the remains of our Senior home room in hopes that he will be able to put it back together in time for the next semester. Patsy Brantley Class Testator Witnesses: Artelia Bailey Ben A. Rhodes 45mm has tganq QTune: 'Danny Boy 3 We raise our voices now in adoration All honor to our school we give anew, Wakelon, we sing your praises, and we pledge our love This class of nineteen hundred fifty-two. Classmates together always hand in hand we stand Loyal forever: one unbroken band. Our banner now so proudly waves on high today, Courage and truth will always guide us on our way. sgemkw has xmhlevy Zebulon, N.C. May 31, 1962 Dear Mrs. Privette. Golly, hasn't time flownsince we graduated? Those ten years certainly went by quickly. It seems like only yesterday that the Seniors of '52 were winning every contest and everyone wished that we would hurry and graduate so they could win something! I saw Betty Frances Edwards a few weeks ago. She's a stewardess on the Corinth-Holder Airlines, lnc. I was informed by her that nearly all of the Seniors were doing opposite from what they thought they would. Rena Moody is now manager of McClellan's Chain Stores. She graduated from Hunter's Five and Ten in Zebulon. A new hair-growing tonic has been developed by Bet Phillips. She probably got the formula from Phillips' Barber Shop. Patsy Brantley finally got to Hollywood. Ihear she's playing Frankinstein's wife. She got her start as a maid in the Senior play. Charles Brooks Finch has a new job with Santa Claus. l-le uses his nose as a fog horn. One of the Seniors, Inez Pearce, is a member of the Rolesville College faculty. She teaches How to Make Your Toni Last. Pattie Pearce is still determined to get married. She said Miss Palmer didn't teach her to fry eggs for nothing. Ben Allen Rhodes has been nominated as the only person whose voice can be heard on the moon. Doris Duke doesn't have too much time for studying now because she has to plan for hers and Roy's future. Bobby McGee has recently opened a lawn mower shop. He specializes in G. I. haircuts. We hear that Bobby Gill now has a private paper route. Rumor has it that Lawrence Liles plans to take over as Hopalong Cassidy whenever he can borrow a mule. Rose Pace is asking all her male friends, Are you fer it? Jeanne Robertson has recently edveloped a new hair rinse. Now she can dye her hair some other color besides red. We hear that Ned Moss blushed so hard when he entered college that the professor asked him what race he belonged to. Norma Faye Bridges is still trying to decide if she wants to teach the third grade. Elton Chamblee was voted recently as the most handsome man east of the Rockies! Wayne Massey developed a mechanic brain. Now he can use this to keep his dates straight. Carlton Blackley has invented a new rocket. It is especially good for getting out of Mr. Whitten- ton's way. Bobby Murray has achieved the distinction of being the only person who has ever graduated from Wakelon High School knowing less when he graduated than when he started. Barbara Denton and Donald Fowler are now coaching basketball at Lizard Lick College. We understand Frances Bunn recently bought Lake Mirl so that she could have her own private swimming pool. As short as she was I never thoughtl would see Gloria Pearce going to college on tom-walkers. Margaret Oakley, after so much hearty eating and stenuous exercise. is still yelling. Give me strength! Our new editor of the Zebulon Record is Willa Bolton. She used to edit the school paper, Bu1l- dog Barks. Mr. Whittenton has hired Ruth Edwards. She was so quiet that he hired her to watch the rat holes. Linda Bridgers has joined Jack lCochman's Hell Drivers. Do you remember how she used to drive the Buick around like a streak of greased lightning? Anne Allman has a radio program in Zebulon. It is How to Eat and Be Slim. Kathryn Baker is at home out in Texas. We hear she's grumbling because everytime she tries to dig a well she strikes oil! Eva Pulley makes clocks. We hope she learns what time school takes in.. After ten years Ellen Ellington is still snooping around with her head in a garbage pail. lean Richardson sent us a card from Mars. She said that she was building snowmen. Shirley Faulkner and Billy Hugh Bunn are on television every night. He is the Lemon Drop Kid and she's the Lemon Drop Sucker. Do you remember how Artelia Bailey always wanted to be a nurse? Well, she is now, for one of Zebulon's chief horse doctors, Bobby Perry. Wonder if they like their patients? Robert had to wait for Betty Lou to finish school: now she has to wait for him to get out of the Marines. Because Emestine Corbett could paint freckles so nice, she has taken over as Howdy-Doody on television. Melba Baker has opened a beauty shop in Hopkins'. She claims it costs too much to have S.G. 's hair fixed every week. Geraldine Hood is working at Westem Union. She got so many telegrams that she decided to save the boss a trip. Virginia Pearce is now secretary to one of Bunn's largest dairies. She makes the cows contented. Joyce Young has found a new way to sleep so that her dreams will be in technicolor. Ronald Fowler has just invented a new bicycle. Maybe now he can keep up with all of his girl friends. After several years, George Crowder has finally proved to the staff of the State Hospital that he isn't a patient and was only applying for a job. Henry Kitchings has moved to Rolesville, and has gone out for the professional football team at Rolesville College. We found, however, that one Senior is doing exactly as she said she was going to all through high school. She and Cooper have both resigned to raising lots of little Mosses. As for me l have been doing pretty well since I began installing parking meters out at Russell's. That's about all for now, I guess, Mrs. Privette. We did have some of the best times anyone could possible have in school. We'll never forget those times: nor will we ever forget you. Sincerely yours, Rose Holland Class Prophet Lgdfllbfl My am Our school days now are closing, We feel regret within our heart, For from our friends and our dear school, We know that we must part. In our school life here together We learned to work and play, Within the walls of Wakelon We passed many a happy day. Our teachers have influenced us Much more than words can tell- With kindly smiles, our work inspired So, thanking them, we say farewell. North, South, East, or West- Our paths lead to distant places: We put our faith in the Father above Whose Hand all care erases. We'd like to think that when we've gone The classes that follow after Will fill the halls and campus With gaiety, love, and laughter. And now we must say goodby, Yet our love may never sever, To you, our friends, our school, We leave our hearts forever. --Linda Bridgers awk lid, ef! ff!1Mefz R f Shirlwy irfeliw A M --an WI,3v.-A, v rp M511-'v f HUG 1 -'.
