Where did all the trash come from? Glad you asked! Mostly from the well kept files of the previous S.B.'s Cthat's Student Board'sJ. Oh yes, YOUR Student Board has been busy. We spent one month moving from office to office and three months wrestling with the files, but it all has been very meaningful, for all of us. Jill is learning how to use a phoneg Bob has fallen in love with the wall: Clark is making a fortune selling us his candy barsg Rosalyn is in complete amazement with usg Meg is busy keeping the files at her house: and Rochelle . . . well why bother with per- fection. That's us, aren't you glad you elected us! Oh, by the way, would you like to buy a balloon! ! STUDENT BOARD KALPANA AHMED: A.H.S.g N.H.S.g Interna- tional Clubg Betag Tutorial Center. Cthat's Senatus Populusque Romanus for all you culturally deficient plebe- iansj, was extremely active this year. We stormed Fort Hunt's certamen Ca Roman lt's Academic J but ran out of ammunition before the finals. After intense practice, our well-conditioned team went on the road to com- pete in such far-reaching locales as Winchester, Shacklefords, and George Mason University, advancing to the state play-offs at the University of Virginia. After a grueling season, we returned home to host our own certa- men in May. In December we attended the Virginia Junior Classical League convention in Norfolk. The follow- ing delegates distinguished themselves, winning twelve ribbons: Sara Bearss, Beth Davis, John Hamblen, Robert Lin, Clark Lindgren, Ch Martin, Tia Scales, and Tony Taylor. When having the club picture taken fabovej at Arlington National Cemetery, we were accosted by an enraged official who deemed us to be inappropriately attired. Although Mrs. Blair insisted, A toga's a toga! , the official insisted equally firmly, A sheet's a sheet! We rewarded ourselves by participating in a Roman orgy during the Saturnalia, and by going to see Rex Harrison in CAESAR AND CLEOPATRA at the Kennedy Center. HIS REBUS GESTIS, we went in search of ancient art to Baltimore and New York City. lncidentally, we also managed to do a little Latin. in ...M ,S X I IXQOT I XQJYI ' '- .isf-'Q X 4 YM 1 Q1 JSR. mn .,, - -,,. , .fm A17 'U Us 7 IL' fi Q Q x, ' n ww' X ! xcovvsm 'va'gB S! 5 X LCDYIK-D XI XI Q 1 K 1 1 an 1 id 4 4 C I 5, W M y , 4 , Q Wil. A moment of silence. The 1976-77 Wakefield Varsity basketball team was a high scoring, fast breaking outfit who consistently scored in the 70s, scored over 80 three times, hit 95 in their opening game, and scored an amazing 116, a school record, in their final home game against arch-rival Washington-Lee. An early season ankle injury to star forward Gerald Sherrill disrupted the team's momentum after opening up the year with a very impressive 20 point victory over area power Jefferson 95-75. The team regained their momentum and challenged for the district title all year long. Seasonal highlights included: Gerald Sherrill's five 30 plus scoring games including two 36 point efforts which tied the school record: Senior Seth Aldridge's 35 foot jump shot with 4 seconds to go in the game to dump Woodson 61-60 after being down 7 points with 50 seconds remaining in the game: Junior forward Ezell Stewart's gym shattering slam dunks and year-round domination on the backboardsg Senior guard Clifton lohnson's excellent all-round play in keying the victory over league power Chantilly: and the pesky, always hustling play of 5'9 Junior guards Tony Roberts and Doug Mills. End of year honors went to our two star 6'3 forward Co-Cap- tains, Junior Ezell Stewart and Senior Gerald Sherrill. Both were All-District first team selections and both were honored on the All-Regional team. Sherrill was also the scoring champion in the region with a 23 point average. O4 Wakefield High School serves as an effective educational institution in which a multi-ethnic and multi- lingual student body learns to cope with the complex problems of today's society. It is our hope that the contributions of the staff have prepared you to meet the challenges of the future. In the past few years I have been impressed and pleased with the growing awareness on the part of students of the problems of their school and community. Equally important has been the recognition of individual differences in students and a growing tolerance of these differences. Since we live in a complex society complicated by individual differences, perhaps your most valuable lesson has been a recognition for toler- ance of these differences. To the graduating class, I say, thank you. The success of this year would not have been possible without your active leadership and support. To those who remain, I look forward to our continued association, and I pledge to you a continuing effort to develop more effective means for student participation in the programs of the school. Together we can work toward preparing you for entry into a complicated society as a useful and productive individual.
