Starstones were small five-pointed fossils found in England, the former home of the Washington family. They formed the pattern of the stars on the Washington Coat of Arms and, it is said, of the stars on the American flag. Since Wakefield was named after George Washing- ton's birthplace, the name Starstone was chosen because of its close relationship to George Wash- ington.

This year's graduating class, the first to have attended Wakeheld from the seventh to the twelfth grade, has seen and taken part in the growth of Wakeheld from a new, little-known school to a school of quality and reputation. The first student government and the change to the present form, the year that the Walceield foot- ball team beat W-L, the many citizenship and scholastic awards that the school has received, the establishment and growth of clubs and honor societies, and WakeHeld's accreditation-these are but a few of the high points of VV:-1kef1eld's history that this year's graduating class has wit- nessed and participated in. The members of the class of 1959 will carry with them the knowledge and high standards for conduct that they acquired at Wakeheld. As they go on to college or to the vocation of their choice, it is hoped that they will set an example that will uphold and augment the high reputa- tion of their school.
