WELLS Head of Department Preparation of students for business careers is the purpose of WakeHeld's Business Education depart- ment. Headed by Mrs. Wells, the staff of eleven teachers offers such courses as bookkeeping, typing, shorthand, and ofhce machines. READING Improvement of skills in reading speed and comprehension is the purpose of the Reading Department. Headed by Mrs. Minor, the staff teaches remedial reading and an advanced class during study halls and after school for stu- dents who wish to raise reading speed or comprehension. MRS. MINOR Head of Department DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION On-the-job training for stu- dents with a. specific vocation in mind, is provided by the Dis- tributive Education depart- ment. Composed of three sec- tions-Distributive Education, Distributive Occupations and Vocational Office Training- the department consists of three teachers and is headed by Mr. Hawthorne. From mathematics, the student learns not only the funda- mental arithmetic rules, but also clearness and quickness of thought combined with accuracy. The mathematics curriculum includes: eighth grade math, Algebra I and II, accelerated algebra, Plane and Solid Geometry, trigonometry, College Algebra and Commercial Math. The department, with a staff of fourteen teachers and headed by Mr. Weatherly, also spon- sors such activities as the Math Club, Math Honor Society, and several math contests. MATH
