FACULTY During the past six years, the Wakeneld faculty has helped Wake- field to grow to its present state. When Wakeheld opened for its first year ofpperation, the faculty had to cope with many inconveni- ences and establish precedents in teaching that were to remain a part of the school and its reputation throughout the years to come. They worked hard, not only in teaching, but also in helping the student body to organize various vital activities such as the student govern- ment, the sports program, the many clubs and honor societies, and the publications. Today, many of the original faculty are still teach- ing at Wakeheld. To them, and to the teachers that have joined the teaching staff since XVakefield's first year, we owe appreciation for their work that has helped to make Wakeheld a better school. Therefore, as we, the seniors, graduate after six years at Wake- field, we will mirror the work and teaching of our faculty in a man- ner that, it is hoped, will be worthy of the job that they have done.

The first time I saw Wakeheld I thought, This is a school to be remembered. I especially noted that first day the wide halls of your beautifully designed building, your light and attractive classrooms, your well-equipped laboratories and shops. I suppose every student remembers the lighter side of high school-friendships with classmates, excitement of school athletics, satisfactions gained from working on school publications and in student g-overnment, creative joys from school music and dramatics, and the sheer fun of school social functions. But I soon came to realize that, above all else, Wakeheld will be remembered for its educational program. I have come to know your fine principal, Wilson, and I have learned of the excellent courses offered at Wakeheld under your well-trained and conscientious teachers. To be sure, you will always remember Wakeheld for the beauty of the building and for the many happy extra-cur- ricular activities which H11 your leisure hours. But, for most of you, as you grow older, Wakeheld will be remembered for the sound education it offered you. Yes, Wakeheld is truly a school to be remembered. I congratulate you, students and faculty, on your fine achieve- ments in your excellent school. RAY REED Superintendent of Schools, Arlington County
