We Shall Always Remember . . . l Barbara Jeanne Gile-a whimsical girl-one of us, yet a personality individual in herself. Beguile loved school, as an accomplished saxophonist, band and dance band were her favorite activities. She enjoyed sports and her droll sense of humor sparked many a gathering. Her church was most important in her life and her reverence well-known to her many friends. ln her memory, the Music Department and her family have established the Barbara Gile Memorial Music Scholarship to be awarded each year to one of the graduating class for their outstanding scholastic and musical achievement. The following is an example of Barbara's excellent creative writing ability and should be an inspiration to us all lj TUNE UP TIME l want a world like a great orchestra, with one great conductor, God-each person a player, playing the part best suited for him. l want to hear harmonic tones, never a sharp or flat one. l want each member to have equal opportunities, regardless of race, religion, color, or creed. There should be a strong unity between all sections, each one willing to help another in any way possible. lf each player takes the responsibility of staying in tune and correcting his own errors or mistakes, harmony will be everlasting. The orchestra now playing is out of tune. Each section is trying to play louder than the others. Large sections are drowning out smaller ones. Prejudiced white players are pushing Negroes down to play fourth tuba. The players are forgetting their personal responsibilities of keeping in tune and correcting their own errors. Harmonic tones barely creep through, the great world orchestra lacks unity. The conductor is frustrated. Many players forget He is there. Many never knew He was. l know what kind of a world l want, and now it is up to me to do everything possible to get this world. My first and most important job is to take personal responsibility to solve my own problems before l can hope to understand those of my neighbor.
