THE ECHO 1959 WAKEFIELD HIGH SCHOOL WAKEFIELD, MICHIGAN FOREWORD To produce a mighty I mighty theme. Melville. We the editors-in-chief wish to express our appreciation to the sponsors, staff members, and the faculty members who helped to make this yearbook possible. In future years may your memories of Wakefield High School be brought back through the pages of this, our 1959 Echo. Her smile has brightened our dispositions at many times. In this small way may we express our sincere thanks and gratitude to you, Mrs. Leman. 3 SUPERINTENDENT Carved in a heavy oaken door of the Roycroft Inn, are these immortal words of the late Elbert Hubbard: The love you liberate in your work is the love you keep. To do great work, one must fall in love with his task. Artists and artisans have produced great masterpieces because they poured their whole soul into their creations. Devotion to an ideal brings to the scientist and engineer a thrill through new creations. Work that is done in the spirit of love glows with a mystic quality no one can explain. And the worker feels as did Robert Louis Stevenson, who said, I know what happiness is, for I have done good work. Carl E. Kleimola 4 PRINCIPAL Courage is a virtue that is needed in our world today. The common need is for courage to be honest, courage to resist temptation, courage to speak the truth, courage to be what we really are and not to pretend what we are not. Harry B. Sutter ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL The record that you are creating as you go through school will be on hand to help you or to hinder you, depending on the type of character you are developing. 5 Francis W.
