organizations advertisers THE 1957 ECHO PRESENTED BY THE SENIOR CLASS WAKEFIELD HIGH SCHOOL Wakefield, Michigan To the attentive eye, each moment of the year has its own beauty and in the same field it beholds every hour a picture which was never seen before, and which shall never be seen again. EMERSON DEDICATION We, the graduating class of 1957, are proud to dedicate this ECHO to Eugene Maki, a member of the faculty since 1952. Mr. Maki has willingly given his time and efforts in assisting the young people of Wakefield in every possible way. As we go out into the world, we can think back and say of Mr. Maki, Thou wert my guide, philosopher, and friend. --Pope MRS. LEMPI M. SAARI President ELI MUSTAPAA Secretary A. JAMES GILBERT Treasurer BOARD OF EDUCATION To the Board of Education, we, the 1957 graduating class and the students of Wakefield High School, express our sincerest thanks. Your thoughtfulness, guidance, and cooperation will be remembered in years to come. MRS. EUNICE B. OLSON Member CHARLES VALESANO Member ROBERT A. BURNS Attorney  One ship sails east, another west. With the self-same winds that blow; 'Tis the set of the sails, and not the gales, That determines where they go. One of the fascinating miracles of nature is to see two sailboats gliding in opposite directions, impelled by the same breeze. It is also fascinating to observe two students, subjected to the same influences in the same high school, following diametrically different courses after graduation. Why is it that the same environmental breezes” impel them along such differing routes? What is the set of your sails? If your course so charted and your rudder so set that your voyage through life will be fruitful and productive, regardless of the gales that may blow? As the poet has pointed out, you can, in a large measure, determine your own destiny by the way you respond to the influences you meet every day. Happy voyage! CARL E. KLEIMOLA Superintendent The American people know that good education is essential to our Nation. Our schools are dedicated to help all youth acquire fundamental skills and to develop loyalties, habits, and attitudes needed by them to participate in the activities and responsibilities of citizenship.
