During the tour years of sometimes trauma now behind us, we have had the experience of knowing change. When we entered this preparation tor service to man we had many erroneous beliefs, witchcraft thoughts and illusions, born of ignorance and of dreams of what medicine would be. Most of the poetry of these past thoughts has not been dispelled, but the salt of common sense and down-to-earthness has been liberally added, ln the classrooms we learned to look for the simple, the unembel- lished, the obvious, and through the diligence ot our teachers some ot us will do this. On the wards and in the clinics we have put our basic teachings to the test and, it not learned to cure, learned to help. We have learned to cope with the intiniteness of even the most meagre of minds, and we have learned that people are human. With the medicine, we have learned respect, for ourselves, our peers, our superiors and subordinates, and this is all important, for without it we are not physicians. l .b.s. 6
