An humble man, Dr, Artom has won the friendship and appreciation of our class for his deep personal concern over our acquisition of knowledge, eagerness to explain to us even the simplest of points and delight when we seem to un- derstand. A faithful man, he has gained our re- spect for his devotion to Bowman Gray where he has served as professor of bio- chemistry for 24 years, An internationally known scientist, he has engendered our awe and admiration for him through his long history of achievements in the medical sciences. Born in Asti, Italy, Dr. Artom received his MD, degree from the University of Padau and his Ph. D degree in physiology from the University of Messina and in biochemistry from the University of Pal- ermo. He also studied as a Rockefeller Fellow at the University of Naples. He has served as professor and chairman of the Department of Physiology and Bio- chemistry at the University of Cagliari and the University of Palermo, and as professor and chairman of the Depart- ment of Biochemistry at Wake Forest and Bowman Gray. More than 200 papers by Dr. Artom have been published in leading journals.
