Bardo Dedication We, the class of 1954, wish to dedicate this yearbook, to MlSS EDITH B, BARDO who has long deserved the honor. It is but an humble effort to show our appreciation for her many years of service, Never before has there been one more worthy, and we only wish there were something even greater that we could do to express our heartfelt thanks to her for helping to make the Wakarusa Community School a better and more outstanding school. Miss Bardo received her B.S.degree at Goshen College, attended Man- chester College and received her primary training at the University of Chi- cago. She taught grades 1-8 in a one-room school in Jefferson Township her first six years, then taught in the Bristol Schools for twenty-one years before coming to Wakarusa in the fall of 1941 to be the first grade teacher. We, the Class of 1954, were the first group to experience her patience and un- derstanding, and her continued helpful interest has been an inspiration to us, We are indeed proud to dedicate our yearbook to our first grade teacher. We wish her all the happiness and prosperity in the years to come. And Looking Back The bell has rung, the final class -is over, and our locker doors have clang- ed shut for the last time, We stand momentarily and think of the first day we were freshmen in 1950 and how different it all seemed compared to junior high and grade school. Looking back, we all seemed very cautious and hesitant. Truman Weaver was chosen to lead us through our freshmen year of ac- tivities, and did such a magnificent job that he was re-elected for the next three years. And of course we will never forget our initiation that the seniors conducted, Our sophomore year was as big and vigorous as the year before, The junior year brought with it a record-breaking magazine campaign, class rings, which we are very proud of, and a successful class play, Seven- teen is Terrific. This year we were seniors, left with the leadership of the school. The clubs, publications, athletics ---------- all depended for their successes on ours. Again we were confronted with a class play, You Can't Kiss Caroline, which was also successful. The excitement of class day, the dignity of bac- calaureate unexpectedly impressed on us the implications of being a senior. And now we are graduates, remembering the past, looking forward to the future with great anticipation, but all of us will have the memories of our days at W. l-l.S. engraved upon our hearts forever. . . . AND SO GOOD-BY Valedictori an ISABELLE HARTZLER Isabelle is graduating with an average of 95. 5 per cent, She has majored in com- merce, English and history, and minored in science, mathematics, and home economics.
