SENIOR HISTORY In the fall of 1943 a complete new crew of 64 members went aboard the sh1p Success Everyone knew that there would be four long laps of the voyage but each was wlllmg to take a chance for the honor whlch was to be thexrs at the end For the flrst lap of the Journey our offxcers were Nav1gators Mrs Houck and Mr Conrad Captam Wayne Scherer Fmrst Mate Trumanette Bolen Purser Ruth Shaum and Yoeman Carl Hunsberger Durlng the year we stopped at two dlfferent lslands for class partmes In Apr1l the crew became restless so the sh1p was anchored 1n the harbor of one of the larger lslands 'lhe summer months soon rolled by and 1n September 1944 the Success agam set sa1l wlth 59 crew members For the second lap of th1s lmportant Journey our offlcers were Navlgators Mr Holderman and Mlss Housour Captam Kenneth Mxller Fxrst Mate james Holdeman and foeman and Purser Norma Metzler We agam had two class PBIIIES By the tlme Aprll arrlved everyone had sprmg fever so badly that the shxp was put into dry dock for the summer just before we started on the thxrd lap of our journey we were all str1ck en wlth sorrow over the death of two of our crew members Paul and B1l1y Weaver The thlrd lap of our Journey was started 1n September 1945 with 57 crew members aboard Our Navlgator was Mr Bowers Captam Kenneth Mlller Flrst Mate josephme Ummel Yoeman joellen Metzler and Purser We palnted a whlte gardenla on the slde of our sh1p green and whmte flag As the climax to Salle rlotel on the lsland whlch had left the shore In September we our thlrd year of salllng we gave of South Bend for the members of one year before we had started on welghed anchor and salled lnto our and put up an emerald a Banquet at the La the crew of the bcat our Journey fourth year wlth 49 crew members aboard The Navlgator was Mr Rohrer Captaln Kenneth M1ller F1rst Mate The d1rected by Mrs Mlller Our Patrxcma Hoover Yoeman joellen Metzler and Purser Carl Hunsberger f1rst blg event of thls voyage was the play THE SUNSHINE TWINS shlp almost went under whzle passmg through the straxts of Chemlstry Another blg event was a class party to whlch everyone on board was ln vlted and was enjoyed by all present Two of our members dropped off at the island of matrlmony and one crew member acqulred the name father We are now looklng forward to comlng Wlthlh s1ght of our destmatlon whlch w1ll determlne the turnlng polnt 1n each one s 11fe We wlll be gomg Out of the harbor, upon the sea Mary El en and Norma jean Weldy , RK 99 ' I I I I I , . 1 . ll il f . .
