OREWORD... Let's use songs for our theme. Thatls it- The Hit Parade. So decided the staff of the 1949 Purple and Gold. Around school, we hear the students sing, whistle, or hum songs new and old that have become a part of our everyday lives. It is natural, then, that songs should be the basis of the theme this year. EDICATIO The purpose of this dedication is to say thanks to a teacher who has done a great deal for our school in the educational and social fields. It is fitting to dedicate the 1949 Purple and Gold to a fine teacher and a great friend of all the students, a man who has been with Waite for twenty-three years, Mr. jesse Steiner. Prior to teaching social studies at Waite, Mr. Steiner taught for seven years in a one-room country school and three years at Bluffton High School. He graduated from Bluffton College with an A.B. degree and later received his Masters degree at Ohio State University. When Mr. Steiner first started teaching at Waite, he was athletic equipment manager for six years and later an advisor to the Pro and Con history club. His hobby interests include stamp collecting, fishing, and chess, the latter being his favorite. Mr. Steiner will long be remembered in the hearts and minds of the many students that pass in and out of Waite High School. XVe are proud to dedicate this book to him. He is the only one of the Waite faculty who is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, honorary educational fraternity.
