HlIllIIHlIUN... Although Miss Cecile Vashaw has been at Waite but a short time, actually five years, she has, during that time, established herself as one of the best liked and competent members of the faculty. Under Miss Vashaw's supervision, the Waite band has risen from mediocrity to one of the foremost bands in the state, the present band having played, by request, at several important civic and sports events. A graduate of New York University, Miss Vashaw taught at Elmore, Ohio, and various Toledo schools before coming to Waite. On her arrival at Waite she was in charge of the band and the orchestra, but soon the glee club was put under her direction. The choir, which was originated and developed by Miss Vashaw, sings at churches and many religious programs. Several years ago she wrote the music for Waite's Alma Mater. Besides her direction of the 210 students which compose the music depart- ment, she plays in several musical organizations including The Toledo Friends of Music and Mu Phi Epsilon. Much of her time is also spent directing Waite's music organizations at their outside perform- ances. The 1946 Staff of the Purple and Gold is proud to dedicate this 52nd edition of the annual to Miss Vashaw.

During the past several years the gremlin and other similar creatures have gained a greater prominence throughout the worldg however, the American Indian race of the gremlin has been in existence at Waite High School for many years. This year these little characters have left their former places of seclusion and have linally penetrated into the annual itself.
