It conveys in a very positive manner, the idea that as a focal point for some two thousand students, Waipahu High must represent more than the learning of the basic academic skills - that it must also be a place of fond memories and good times. Throughout the school year, every effort has been made to establish a school emphasizing not only the academic areas, but also the human ele- ments of living. We sincerely wish, therefore, that as you think back into the school year you can recall a place of warmth and a friendliness - a pleasant place. For those of you who are leaving Waipahu High, we hope than-filled days, and you can say emphatically that, those were the good times. With this brief message, may I take the opportu- nity to thank each and every one of you for wel- coming me to your school. I have enjoyed work- ing with you tremendously and look forward to continue our efforts to make Waipahu High a bet- ter school yet. With Sincere Best Wishes, Milton Shishido Principal Mr . Adult education, as originally conceived and subsequently perpetuated, is intended to offer all citizens, 18 and over, the opportunity to grow in knowledge and understanding in a world of accelerated changes, to acquire technical and professional skills consonant with change, to experience new' dimensions in human relations necessitated by a new morality, and to develop leadership potential in a frenetic society. In consonance with the tenor of the times, adult education is predicatged on the fol- lowing broad stated goals: 1. To reduce illetercy and under education. 2. To increase economic opportunity and vocational competency and thus reduce unemployment . 3. To advance English language competency. 4. To improve home and family life, health, and safety. 5. To enrich cultural, social, and recreational interests. 6. To preserve and protect against war and natural disaster. 7 . To alleviate the conditions of poverty and raise the standard of living. 8. To promote usefulness and well-being of the senior citizens of our country. TO THESE ENDS , WE DEDICATE OURSELVES . I -1 ,, 1. Q ,mg 48 awsmemswsr ,x:- 4.1 f:f',- - its 1 , ' V slag 3 A U-S.. Faced with many tasks, the Waipahu High School Government, headed by such young and energetic officers, committee heads, coordinators, and advisor, experi- enced a most challenging and successful year. Under the leadership of WHSG the students had a good start with the informative and groovy Welcome Assembly. This event signaled and set the stage of things to come. The Aloha Week Assembly and the Halloween Dance followed with spirited Pep Assemblies in between. The school year was off early and to a great take-off. The Winter Ball, Spring Dance, and May Day were memorable events that high- lighted 1974-75. Student participation and response were much in evidence through the hectic candy sales, Cane Tassel production, Talent Show, Flag Design contest, Handbook publication, and MayFair. Students and leaders showed enthusiasm and loyalty. The student leaders were also actively engaged in other activities outside of Wai- pahu High. State-wide conferences and meetings and School Advisory meetings were attended and represented by Marauder leaders. A busy but fun-filled year - a year of Good Times. Mi' The 1974 football season proved to be an exciting as well as an unpredictable one for the Waipahu Marauders. The Marauders entered the regular prep season with good morale and spirit. Lady Luck was against the Marauders and Waipahu lost a few very close games. Under head coach, Francis Claveria and his ahle assist- ants, the Varsity Football Team did a commendable job and played in the true Marauder tradition. They fought hard and they played well. The season was mediocre in Marauder standards nevertheless, the team proved exceptional for their constant effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Win or lose, the Marauders are a credit to Waipahu, and can hold their heads high. All hail the 1974 Varsity. The players worked hard and diligently to improve their skills. On the diamond the team played Heads-up ba11 in both the pre-season and regular season games. Head Coach Keith Morioka and his assistant, Tom Gushikeu, should be proud of the fine team representing the Blue and Gold Waipahu Marauders. The Waipahu Matmen gappled and groaned as they battled their opponents. Several young wrestlers show promise for the years to come. Team effort and a strong desire to win made the Marauders a threat in every meet. Now this is the Law of the Athlare. As true as the flight of the ball And the player who keeps it shall prosper. But the player who breaks it must Fall. As the ball, with the parts it is made of, Bound and held fast by the seams. Our efforts for our beautiful float and I-Quad decorations were well appreciated by our fellow students. Clapping our hands and stomping our feet to the cool beat of our freshman h c eer led us to our victory in the Spirit and Assembly competition. Though we didn't win overall, our spirit kept us going. And we're coming back next year, so BEWARE! ! ! Ah ,W . . . the Winter ball. Our first formal dance! It sure was Remember the Christmas tree decorating contest? The Class that came back for the second time, doing its best for the Sophomore year. That's OUR CLASS of '77. Still united in power and spirit, we set out to accomplish goals which took lots of hard work. But in working together the United Way, we made work seem like a bag of fun. Equipped with experience and ideas, we began to feel closer in achiev- ing our goals. Ohh . . . boy! Was the Arthur Award Competition a long strenuous event! But the results were right-on! With determination, the Sophomore Class entered the competition ready to show the Marauder spirit. Carrying an over-sized bed sheet, we tried to hang it on the building from the roof top to the ground with the wind almost blowing us off our feet. When looking at it, we see all shades of blue and yellow, showing our work in I-Quad Decorations. We stayed up all night making our float. We put toilet tissues and newspaper flowers through chicken wire, re-using the rolled-up blue toilet paper from last year. We woke up the next morning to put on the finishing touches on our float. Then off to the parade! ' Remember Homecoming night? The night our vocal chords got all stretched out of shape? We beat cans furiously, but with rhythm. As we looked up on the bleachers, we saw blue and yellow-clad Sophomores, a class united together, waving blue and yellow pom poms, banners and signs. And . . . how about the last few minutes of the game when they announced the results of the Arthur Award Competition? Everyone's ears began to open wider and wider, under the sounds of rattling cans. We heard, And First Place and Winner of the Arthur Award go to the Sensational SOPHOMORES. Tears of joy and happiness filled our eyes. Shouts and screams of victory were heard. The CLASS of '77 had accomplished the ultimate goal through lots of work - work done together! How was the Vote K-POI Contest? We wrote Vote K 'OI by the hundreds of thousands - using 2 or 3 pencils at once! How our fingers ached! Then we waited for the results. Over the radio we found that Waipahu High had placed 2nd in the contest. Coming in second wasn't bad . Rod Young came down to perform for us. We woke up five in the morning to decorate our Christmas - Remember? We didn't win, but we had lots of fun trimming the tree with Charlie Brown and his pals. This is but a small part of our Sophomore year. The United Class of '77 is just as ready for the future, ready to show and spread the Marauder spirit of Waipahu High School. 150 Dgrwrz Agbayani Patrick Adaro Erucsro Acidera mlm germ 'Erdrda Abrcgarro Loren Abiva Durrrris Agbisir Clarisa Agmata Saul Aluzrrico Milus Ajifu Durban Alihay Juliu ,-Xlcxrrrrra Rod Alczrnrara Gurmainu Alcovcr Cjfrrrhia .-Xlcjado Tzmrmy Alexander Mary Arrwrozo Rny Ando Alujandro Antonio Angie Antonio Alan Arakaki Glurm Arakawa Milton Aranaydo Alice Asada Briggette Asagra Nelson Asato Feliciana Asuneion Phillip Austria Dayne Auna Nadine Awana Susan Azuma Daniel Backman Trina Badayos Mits Bailey Jesse Bala Pauline Balagat Gerry Balcobero Elmer Balino Agnes Balualua Virgilio Banda Annette Barcelona Ronald Barut Daniel Basioa Donna and Christie watch as Lorilei reads her love letter. We now say hello-goodbye with the end of the year - a bright crisp marauder cheer. Marauders we were then and there , now and then chuck- ling through the times we shared, Marauders we'll be for all time to see , for we're just a family truckin' through time endlessly. Like rhythms and rhymes, they will blend and mix and match, in things we do in fun for all. For as Marauders in our youth, we really had a ball, and caught our jollies one and all. Remember the homework the wiseone gave us in teachings and learnings to be had? And the recess that follows was a bless to all. The lunch, not too hot -and not too great, was righteous jus' the same. Bearing it was truly a burden, but we lived jus' the same. How 'bout the chicks you watched and guys you happen to stare at from time to time? The romance of trying to make out and learnin' from experience was always a no, Till you found the one who said , yes and oh what fun you had - till you found out she was a two timing lad. Well, remember it was fun jus' the same, maybe to you it was just' another game , For the Marauder life was just a ball and you were jus' cruisin' through - making fun of it all. Cruisin' down the hallway cool as can be, me and my gang as rough as we can be, Had good times to share in our Marauder years. Marauders we are true blue - not a tear in our eyes. We'll smile and chuckle through the bad times as well as the good times. We all share the Marauder name that we proudly bear, and many a dream we lived as a fantasy trying to get by life . And how we acted in school - a frightful shame , but to us it was just a game . And how we loved playing a game of life, with us as pieces, we take a chance. Now we regret these are our last remaining years, for all the good times we shared with all the joy and laughter that came. The good times we had as Marauders - having a ball each and everyone - catching ci? jollies One and all . . . ' NX ws! N ig N- . k Q N. il Q55 -is.. '3i,,gAbe Mangrubang Jr. . The Leeward Lions Carnival is upon us! The juniors dis- played an energetic spirit by selling one S 8a S Saimin and once again, they were proud to be juniors. The chickens are coming! And when they came the juniors, once again, showed remarka- ble stamina and enthusiasm in the preparation of those tasty and juicy birds. The sale was a great success and again, they were proud to be juniors. Losing the Arthur Award Competition by one point disappointed many of them but they were still proud to be juniors. Jingle bells! Jingle bells! It was that time of the year again, it was time to decorate the trees. And decorate they did. Snow cones, ice crystals, penguins, a fire truck, and Santa all enabled the jun- iors to finish first in the Annual Christ- mas Tree Decorating Contest. And they were proud, and I mean real proud, to be juniors! Crunch! Crunch! It was candy time again! The sale was a tremendous success and they were proud to be juniors. And the big night had arri-ved! They had waited for eleven long years. The night of the Junior Prom proved to be a very mem- orable event for all who attended. The setting was stunningly beautiful, the food just fantastic, and music just groovy! And indeed, they were really proud to be juniors! And as the juniors wait with great anticipation for the advent of their senior year, you can be sure of one thing - they are proud to be members of the Spirited Class of 1976! -ll 2 X , ff? It was hard work, but the rewards were well worth the pains taken. Then on March 9, 1974 at the Queen Kapiolani, we hald our Junior Prom - Welcome to My World. For many of us, the music of our first formal affair still lingers on. Soon it was on to our Senior year and our final homecoming. Though we didn't get to keep Arthur our float was one of the coolest things on wheels. The Seniors really did Shine On. After the hustle and bustle of homecoming had subsided, there was the Winter Ball to keep us aware. The Princess Kaiulani welcomed us with a Merry Christmas, Darling on Dec. 6, 1974. As we' moved surely into 1975, the Pagoda Hotel became the setting of our Senior Banquet on March lst. Then on May 10, 1975, we found ourselves at the Hawaiian Regeant Hotel for our Senior Commencement Ball. The many memories captured from that evening truly made it A Time For Us. Finally, on June 7, 1975, our high school years came to an end. Our commencement at the HIC signified a breaking of old ties and enabling each graduating senior to seek out his own pattern of life. For the mighty Class of '75, the years that have passed are now reflected by each individual's personal growth and maturity. We leave behind a treasure of Good Times' , at WHS We must continue on to find better times within our own lives! 203 ffilifmm f Qamhmwm and .ffjufagasvlggod qjoful Am gang Qfmub ami Qguzsfm Pifems Waummn gkegwl ifwng and Jfwfaww my 10, W75 Jsfmia: Cgewenlllj tif QSM 5?, wa cm f gfogw ML EW Melinda Abang Harry Abe Cindy Abe Gerald Abregano .pau Jeffrey Abregano Gregory Adaro Manuel Ader Avelino Aguilar 06 ,..-.1 Franklin Akhay Paul Alcos Anita Alejo Arlene Alferes l Mm. ir fkw fs...
