IN MEMORIAM: STG3 DOUGLAS L The following is an excerpt from the speech Capt. Huchting gave at the memorial service for STG3 Lundquist held on the flight deck on 15 Aug. As we assemble here today - in memory of Petty Officer Lundquist - we might be asking ourselves these questions: Why did one of our shipmates have to die? Why did an individual of such talent and enthusiasm for life have to pass away? Why did a good friend with so much potential have to leave us? I ha ve fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Perhaps the answer lies in the quotation from Timothy which is on the front of the memorial service pamphlet: The time for my departure has come. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Each of us has only a limited amount of time to spend on earth. The limits of that time are not known to us. Thus, while we may ponder and think about the why of the question and while we may be bitter at whoever we feel has set a limit to our time on earth, there is nothing we can do to change that sit- uation . . . What we do now, you and I, is what is important. Lee can help us no longer. He has given all he can to gfrlfgimily, his shipmates and the GAETA - STG3 Lundquist and QM3 McCorkle emoy the sun on the sand in Gaeta, Italy. 2 left a very fine mark on the EE LUNDQUIST X Lee world. We must now build on that mark. That is what Lee would want. Now we must fight the fight, we must finish the race, we must keep the faith. LUNDQUIST - STG3 Lundquist walks aft from the bridge. Lundquist died when the Wainwright was in Marseilles. ON THE SIGNAL BRIDGE - SMSN Nickerson, STG3 Lundquist and QM3 McCorkle relax on the Signal Bridge. umm f
