Pmcipal ' s Message The educational tree with its many component parts; Trunk-Student Body, Limbs-Classes, Leaves -Students , Flowers-Activities; each representative of a particular segment of the school ' s total program, is anchored by its roots, the administration and the faculty. The tree, to grow and be productive, must be firmly established and must receive nourish- ment and stimulation from its roots. In administering this school, we have tried to do just that: to establish a strong, solid base for the tree to grow and to withstand the occasional adversities through sound organization and strong discipline; to provide educational nutrients through a competent and concerned faculty and carefully selected instructional materials; to promote stimulation by maintaining an edu- cational climate that encourages ideas and inquiries. Upon these foundations the educational tree at Waimea High has flourished and this 1965- ' 66 edition of the Ka Menehune reflects the many facts of this growth. Sincerely, Mr. Y. We will remember the hardships of the past years, but we will never forget the rewards that were reaped for our ef- forts. We will remember our initial year as timid freshmen, stumbling into wrong classrooms on the first day of school. As sophomores, we got acquainted with each other and participated in many school activities; and the memorable mo- ments of our Junior Prom , Moonlight a nd Roses , will never be forgotten. Our advisors will remain as milestones in our memories for their unselfish counseling and guidance. They have done so much for us. . . now we must take our own paths. Graduation will bring an end to our memorable years here at Waimea High, how- ever, we will never forget our Alma Mater. Joshua 1:8. f] ( lass ' Of ' 6 Patrick Pereira President 7 Glerm Morimoto Vice President Emi Kajihara Secretary The Class of 1967 began the year in the spir- it typical of Jubilant Juniors. With gusto, we hustled n ' bustled through our school and class activities with the dynamic dynamo that was the envy of all the other classes! With expected reluctance, we accepted the academic challenge of being upperclassmen, but admittedly, this first taste of maturity was bittersweet. Our Junior year will always be a favorite page in our book of memories. Each of us have our private worlds filled with those wonderful moments to remember. We owe a part of our success m turning en- deavors into accomplishments to our class advisors: Mr. Bulatao, Mrs. Ho, Mr. Ki- moto, Mrs. Pannkoke, and Mr. Shimazu. Bless them! As we leave this hill to climb a higher mountain, we can all look back— a little wiser, a little stronger, and all the more eager to reach the top. Football for the Menehunes is an opportunity as well as a privilege to match their playing skills on the gridiron. Chosen by their outstanding qual- ities of leadership, Howard Kaga- wa, Lester Souza, Roland Unciano, and Patrick Pereira served as co- captains. Under their leadership the iMenehunes fielded a team rich with ded- icated players and an outstanding crop of young talent. Although the team j did not retain the KIF i Championship, they were ! , - - the Champs in the hearts of the student body. i The team assumed and car- ; ried out the responsibilities of playing the game with skill, honor and determination to win. The omnipotent Waimea team had a heart -breaking downfall this year as the strong Kauai andKapaa teams pressed them out of the champion- ship title. However, hopes are especially high for next year with a powerful J.V. team coming into the Varsity picture. The high point of the year was a trip to Honolulu playing against Farrington, Waianae, and Kaimuki . Ever since the first day of practice, the boys have shown much of the true blue Mene- hune spirit.
