Barrett Commissioner District Sup't, 3951 , 103, ' 1946 - 1951 Seventy-five years ago, in the year 1882 Waimea English School com posed of two cottages was erected on the bank of Waimea River. Mrs Mary A, Stolz, principal, and Louis H. Sto1z and Levi Kauaimet the need of their 81 pupils with whatever means they had available. Though th English language was stressed, the Hawaiian language was still used ash medium of communication. By 1900 the schoolbecame known as Waimea School. It had five room and 176 pupils. In 1912 the first eighth grade class was added with an ent Aww rollment of four students. However, no formal graduation exercise was 'H ' held. The first diplomas were awarded to thirteen students in 1915, thesf students thus received the honor of being the first to have a graduatiol exercise at Waimea School. Waimea rapidly expanded with a pupil population of 501 in 1920. Mr. Gilpin S, Sessions, principal, was assisted by sixteen teachers. In Septem- ber of 1921, with the addition of the ninth grade, Waimea became the first junior high school in the territory. The tenth grade was added in 1921 under the name Waimea Junior High School.
