Ikehara Scores of Games Pre-Season: Waimea St. Louis Waimea Waipahu Season: Waimea Kapaa Waimea Kauai Waimea Kapaa Waimea Kauai Post-Season: Waimea Kauai CO-CHAMPIONS The Waimea Menehunes finished another season of unique and successful football playing. Coach Richard Doi's 1954 team climaxed a seven game schedule with a tie for the K. I. F. Championship shared with the Kauai High Red Raiders. The Waimea gridders were considerably younger and had little or no experience as compared with their opponents. However, led by two hustlin Co-Captains, George Nohara and Albert Oshiro and a few returning lettermen, our team did its best to win Due honor and recognition is given to Coach Richard Doi, Assistant Coaches Robert lkehara and Melvin Tsuchiya and those Alumni members Harold Naumu and Mansfield Doi who guided our team to a spectacular finish. 66

S P0 RTS Waimea High and Elementary School offers in its physical education department an effective program of health edu- cation and recreation to develop the health, endurance, and character of its students. All students in grades 7 to 10 are required to take physical education. Intramural competition is provided for physical education classes, which give train- ing and experience for interscholastic contests. The best of facilities and equipment has been secured for this department to provide further enjoyment of all sports and to prevent any occurence of mishaps. The Waimea Park is utilized for football, baseball, hockey and volley-ball while the Clem Gomes Gymnasium is used for basketball and prisonball, as well as for tumbling and modern dancing. All athletic games are controlled by the Athletic Committee, which schedules every game to be played whether it be inter-class or inter-scholastic. The major sports for the boys are football, baseball, basketball, and track under the direct supervision of Mr. Rich- ard Doi, boys' physical education director. The girls, under the direction of Miss Barbara Bidwell, girls' physical education director, also follow a sports pro- gram which includes tennis and archery. 65
