The Menehune's gridiron roster showed a great majority of the boys being very young and having little or no experience. However, led by their hustling Captain Yoshiaki Matsuda and a few returning lettermen, these sons of Waimea fought to the last in every game, blocking and tackling to the best of their ability, regardless of the odds against them. Recognition and due honor have been bestowed on Richard Doi, who in serving his first year as head coach of the Waimea Menehunes, did a masterful job with his boys, despite their record of five losses and two victories. Credit should also be given to Ass't Coach Melvin Tsuchiya and to those men in the community, namely Harold Naumu, George Crowell, Sonny Kaohi and Mansfield Doi, who helped Coach Doi with the development of our team. The Menehunes lost both pre-season games, one by a narrow margin of one point to the heavier Maui Hi eleven and the other to Coach Bill Wise's McKinley Tigers who proved too strong for the Waimea lads. In theregular K. I. F, season opener the Red Raiders of Kauai Hi, capitalizing on three Waimea fumbles deep in scoring territory, went on to score their first triumph. In their next game the Menehunes ran all over the Kapaa Clippers, but in the second game with the Red Raiders, the Menehunes suffered defeat. In the season's finale Coach Doi's lads whipped the Kapaa Clippers for a 26 tcyl3 victory. The Thanksgiving game played for mwrine Fund saw our fighting Menehunes bow again to the Raiders. tm .Ima fmt Just t I 6 , W l t . , v -'Y . S COAQ'l: RICHARD DOI Xl ASS'T COACH: MELVIN TSUCHIYA
