Wahoo students, under the leadership of Joe Weyand, made their fourth consecutive trip to Washington D.C. through the Close Up program. The group consisted of three seniors (Tracy Kelley, Ann Maly, and Tracy Peterson) and eight juniors (Beth Brandt, Jason Bromm, Brian Carlson, Jane Evers, Kevin Jeppson, Mike Krumpus, Rhonda Swanson, and Scott Tingelhoff. During the week the students toured the city and listened to many speakers (including Nebraska’s two senators). Usually later the student would get together in workshops and discuss their days events. Some of the places the students experienced were the Lincoln, the Jefferson, and the Vietnam Memorials; the U.S. Capital, the White House, and the Islamic Center. The students also enjoyed seeing the play, “The Citizen Thomas Paine” at the Kennedy Center, and attending the dance at the end of the week. At the end of the week everyone was pretty much exhausted, but what they had experienced they will remember for a long time.
