Students, Faculty Involved In Many Activities Outside of Class Many students and faculty were involved in projects outside of classroom activities. One of the highlights was jared Ketner being one of the seven qualifiers in Nebraska for the 'Teacher in Space' Program. To enter, Mr. Ketner had to fill out a lengthy resume and originate a project for the space shuttle. This was also the first year of the annual Zanuck award, given by the Zanuck family to top students with need. Only students from Wahoo Public and Wahoo Neumann are able to receive this award. Jr. Stacy Motes was given a scholarship to attend Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, for a six-week workshop in poetry. Stacy was in the top one percent on her PSAT tests, allowing her to qualify for this scholarship. 9

Second Year at D.C. Great Success This year a group of students from Wahoo again visited Washington, D.C., through the Close-Up program. The eleven juniors, accompanied by their fearless leader Mick Anderson, spent a week touring the sights of the nation's capitol. Some of the highlights included visits to the Vietnam, Jefferson, and Lincoln Memorials, meetings with Nebraska's representatives, a day on Capitol Hill, and an evening out at the musical Oklahoma! A dance and banquet rounded out the week. The school board gave all eleven students half-scholarships. 11
