Downtown Rally Makes Big Hit Eric Gottschalk and Dawn Jansen were choosen 1982 Homecoming King and Queen Friday September 24 at ceremonies held in the high school little theater. The theme for this year's Homecoming was Fantasy . A castle was located behind the royalty throne and the candidates walked across a drawbridge for their entrance. There were several stars that hung from the ceiling that twinkled as people danced. Hot air balloons were the background for the couples pictures, outlined with pastel streamers. This year's pep rally was held downtown for a change of pace. The cheerleaders rode downtown on the fire engine, showing lots of pep. The band played while the cheerleaders did routines to help the enthusiasm of the crowd. Mayor Candidate Don Divis gave the speech for the evening. Wahoo’s “One Feather (Mrs. Betty Patzloff) presented balloons to all the football players and gave football captain. Bill Hancock, the victory feather. Many people felt this was the best Pep Rally in recent years. Something new this year was the boy athletes preparing a breakfast for the girl athletes on thursday. The 1982 Homecoming candidates were: David DuBois, Mike Barry, Bill Hancock, John Hansen, Eric Gottschalk, Dawn Jansen, Karla Christensen, Janet DeLay, Caroline Prohaska, Lisa Havelka, and Kaye Wallin. Wahoo also won their first homecoming game in seven years, defeating the David City Aquinas Monarchs, 14-9.
