WENDT PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE Time passes swiftly and in these fleeting days seniors SU PERI NTEN DENT'S MESSAGE Seniors of 1958, you are graduating from high school at a time when much is demanded of you. At no time has so much emphasis been put on the importance of education. Industry, science, the professions are all demanding highly trained and specialized workers and competition in all these fields is keen. True, this is a time of great opportunity but not without industry and hard work. To meet the challenge of this age you will have to expend yourself to the limit of your abilities. As you leave this high school I wish you well. What- ever you choose to do with your life, give it the best you have, no less, and you will be rewarded. SCHOOL BOARD Jack Linquist Harry Olsen Britanus Vik Eli Doumit Jack Worthington will experience various moods. The drudgery of the moment with the endless repetitious tasks is replaced at times by the challenge of the future. The happiness brought by school ending alternates with sadness upon leaving friends and a familiar situation. Your education is not merely schooling. It is a life- long self discipline and training which should be en- couraged by a reasonable opportunity to lead a good life and seek certain goals. These goals are generally vague. If you have planned well, however, you will soon see a certainty of need and follow a definite program of work or study. Appreciate the present then with its thorny problems and ioys. Life passes swiftly-live it to its fullest. PRINCIPAL HAROLD E. KLOES MR. ERNEST McKlE MISS MARGARET MCCARTER MRS. MARY TRUMBULL MR. The whole class, chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Patterson and Lee Evans, enjoyed a clay at Battleground Lake. Most of the day was spent eating. In his second season as head football coach at WHS, Bill Patterson was Uamboreei handling an inexperienced team in a new league. WHS llwaco , Their first game was at the Trico League iamboree in which they WHS Valley played and lost to a highly-rated Kalama team, 35-O, in one half. As far as everyone was concerned, except the Mules and Coach Patterson, this WHSAA ' Kalama was another cellar-dwelling year for the small and inexperienced WHS. Naselle Mvles' WHS south Bend The Mules lost two more games to llwaco and Valley fthe latter win- WHS Ocosta ning the Pacific County League championshipl by the score of 46-6 'and 40-19. However, the Mules were beginning to show some spunk which the Cathlamet fans hadn't caught wind of yet. The Kalama game, to most people, was going to be a pitiful slaughter in their eyes, but Coach Patterson's fired-up Mules played like champions and led the Chinook gridmen up until the final quarter before losing out, 19-32. But this was a new team! And they proved it by winning their next three ball games in a row, trouncing Naselle 46-O, edging South Bend 2l-20, and beating Ocosta T9-6 to cop third place in the Pacific County League and earn the respect of all the football fans in the new league.
