Y., and Adelphi. Returning with two previous years of experience was the high-scoring center of the Seahawkettes, Barbara Helmke, as well as the veteran defensive star, Captain Lucille Brown. Playing next to Barbara, at left forward, was Mickey Schmidt, while the offensive center position was filled by Barbara Kayser, the squad's second high scorer. Defensive chores were assumed by regulars Jane Marsden and Erica Uhl, newcomers tp the club, while Jean Vetterlein, Alberta Rayner and Joan Ziegler were the reserves. Bunny Clausen, another returnee from last year's unit, con- tributed a good share to the female Green Wave offense. Victories were racked up against St. John's University, St. Joseph's, Rider College, Queens, and Equitable Life Insurance, as the girls won five games and dropped a like number. Il5 EIL-Q H '

..c 1 The 1951 edition of the Wagner baseball team compiled a highly creditable record, showing thirteen victories as against seven losses. After dropping seven of their first nine games, the Sea- hawks trounced St. John's, 7-3, at Dexter Park, L. l., which proved to be the turning point of the season, as they bounced back to win all of their remaining eleven contests. Keynoting this undefeated string of games was the superb pitching of Ziggy Wachsmuth and Don Finley, who 'ecorded earned run averages of 1.29 and 1.6, resuectively. This duo, bolstered by the ad- dition of Joe Russell, allowed an average of less than five hits per game, and limited the opposition to a .185 team batting average, Wachsmuth led the pitching staff with a record of 7-2, contributing im- portant wins over St. John's, N. Y. U., and Manhat- tan while setting the pace in s-trikeouts, complete games and innings pitched. Leading the squad in hitting with a .318 batting average was Al Frolander, who also stole the most bases, 11. Following closely was- Neil Leonard, who hit .31 1, stole seven bases, and had the highest slug- ging average, .431. Burt Helgeson led the team in homeruns and held down the first base position, while Don Silva captained the club from the hot corner. The con- sistent performance of Bob Weber, whose 15 R.B.l.'s was tops, and Lionel Rotelli around the key- stone strongly contributed toward Wagner's driving finish, while Sal Espos-ito's team play, and the capable handling ot the pitchers by Dan Natarelli LEFTY GEARHART Assistant Coach 116 also were instrumental in the Seahawks' diamond success last season. Highlights ot the campaign included a one- hitter against St. Peter's in the opening game, the tide-turning victory over St. John's in mid-season, as well as 2-1 and 1-O Conference triumphs over N. Y. U. and Manhattan. Entering the Metropolitan Baseball Conference for the first time, the Suttermen turned in a com- mendable job while consistently playing against top- notch competition. Finishing fourth in a loop composed of nine teams, the Wagner nine can look forward to another successful season, with only Don Silva, who has graduated, absent from the regulars. HERB SUTTER Coach
