At VVagner College the collegiate plan for nurs- ing is the pathway by which young women are realizing their ambition. Wagner College School of Nursing held its first classes in September of 1943 under the govern- ment cadet nurse corps. Today the four years of college life at VVagner are planned so that the student nurse is able to participate in college functions and spend two years in hospital field experience. The student nurse receives her training in medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics, and operating room technique at Staten Is- land General Hospital. Sea View Hospital, also on the island, is where experience in communicable disease is gained. The third alliliation is the psychiatric period which she spends at Creedmoor State Hospital on Long Island. The green and white uniform designed by the first class in 1943 is worn by the student nurse when she starts her pre-clinical period. Following a probationary period she participates in the impressive Florence Night- ingale capping and candlelighting services held in the college auditorium. At the completion of four years the student is eligible for a B.S. degree and the privilege of being a Registered Nurse. t 70
