The annual Homecoming Day game, re- plete with Homecoming Queen and a pre- game float parade, saw the Seahawks avenge an upset of the previous season with a convinc- ing 36-6 victory. The large number of Alumni on hand were treated to a fine display of power by the Wagner team. The Seahawks overcame the handicap of a bitter cold day to break the all time scoring record for a single game with a brutal 52-l2 win over Panzer College. Wagner scored al- most at will and at the final whistle was stop- ped, just short of another tally. Wagner's team was truly great last fall and it may take many a year for another team to equal its record. The coaches however look to the new season with optimism and Wagner, with a tougher schedule than last year, should again have a good year. t

K .fi is ..s.,, ' W . Sbfpg -Lfxiz CAPTAIN JIM GILMARTIN. Sparked by Captain Jim Gilmartin, the I949-50 team achieved the best record in recent Seahawk history. The hoopsters compiled an excellent record of I9 victories against 5 defeats. The l949-5O season saw the inception of the Greater New York Conference, with Wagner, Brooklyn Poly, Pratt, Adelphi, Hofstra, Queens, Kings Point, and Cooper Union as members. Wagner easily won the Conference championship by winning all seven G. N. Y. C. games. The highlight of the Conference season was the spine-tingling 62-52 overtime victory over the Adelphi Panthers. With 50 seconds remaining in the game, and Wagner 5 points behind, the seahawks rallied to send the game into an extra period. Cap- tain Jim Gilmartin and Jay Quintana were selected for the first all-star team in the Conference, while Bob Blomquist was chosen for the second team. The Championship Seahawks were honored at a dinner held at Pratt Institute. The highlight of the season was achieved on the evening of February 6th, when a red-hot Wagner squad turned back the Fordham Rams 57-53 on Fordhams home court. Sparked by the brilliant playing of the kids , Spanky Sweeney, and Sonny Bosley, Wagner gained the lead at the seven minute marker and thereafter held a comfortable lead for the remainder of the game. Bosley tallied I7 points, mostly on spectacular one-handed shots. This was perhaps the greatest basketball victory ever achieved by the Seahawks . Two of the defeats suffered by the Seahawks , were at the hands of two teams destined to go later inthe season to major tournaments, Brooklyn, IN. A. l. B.l and St. John's lNational Invitation Tournamentl. Other highlights of the season were the breaking, three times during the season, of the Wagner College high- scoring mark for a game. They were against Baltimore University 83-60, ISO
