QA: ..' 'tile ai' ami GMM Glad THE Wagner College Chess Club, formed during the Fall semester of I948, has been fortunate enough to accomplish its scheduled aims for the year. These aims were: to receive a school charter, to form a small but complete Chess library, and to stimulate interest in the game of chess here upon the hill. The club has already been recognized as an organization by the famous Staten Island Chess Club, which is known throughout the Chess World. Having accomplished its preliminary aims and duties, the Chess Club is now concentrating upon forming a Chess Team with which it hopes to engage many of Wagner's traditional rival colleges next semester. The team will revolve around the five strongest players in the organization. This will not only encourage competition in the club itself, but will also act as an incentive as well as a goal for the club members. Under the guidance of Professor Wildermann, the club hopes to continue progressing in the future as it has in the past year. ' Officers President . . . . DOUGLAS LAWRENCE Vice President . . . . i i Slwlenldl IT IS the aim of the Student Handbook staff H949- l95Ol to increase the practicability of the student guide, without detracting from the informative material contained therein. Toward this end, several major innovations are ex- pected to be made, Foremost among these will be a reduction in the size of the Handbook, Naturally, a change of this nature will involve the use of thinner paper, and, for purposes of durability, the use of a semi- hard cover. We should like to extend our thanks at this time to Dean Bacher, Mr. Dieckman, Harold Olsen, Jack Schimel, and Miss Eleanor Parsons for their valuable assistance. 87
