HERB SUTTER Coach accepting the bids, Wagner bowed out of the Metro- politan Conference in the quarter-finals to Pratt, a team which earlier in the season had been de- feated handily. ln the Middle Atlantic States Tour- nament, however, the Seahawks did much better as they defeated favored Dickinson in the opening round, lost to the ultimate winner of the tournament, Albright, in the semi-finals, and came back to a rousing win over Lebanon Valley in the consolation round. Wagner gained her share of the honors, not only by virtue of finishing third in the tourna- ment, but one of the Seahawks, Jim Gilmartin, Wagner pivotman was awarded the most valuable player award of the tourney. Sparkling throughout the season were Ray Doody and Jay Quintana with their exceptional offensive ability, Wilson Gearhart and Chester Selitto for their agressive all around play, and Bob Blomquist, Jim Gilmartin, and Dick Doremus for their steadiness and splendid rebounding. Rounding out the Varsity squad were Phil Qualben, Ken Laucella, Gerry Ci- cero, and Larry Sweeney and Burgess Coates until they were lost to the team at mid-season. The Wagner Junior Varsity also enjoyed an ex- cellent season as they chalked up an impressive won and lost record. The high scorers for the season were Don Gro- misch and Al Frolander, two Freshmen who are cer- tain to be valuable additions to the varsity next year. Closely following the scoring twins in point pro- duction was Francis Hannigan, whose value also lay in his steadying influence on the team. Frank Lynch and Bob Loggia, whose agressiveness and team play proved invaluable to the quintet, rounded out the starting five. Ziggy Wachsmuth, Tex Hanson, Don Drown, John Bohlken, and Pete Landis were re- serves who contributed no little share to the J. V's successful season.
