COACHED by Professor Herbert Sutter and ably led LEFTY GEARHART CO-Captain by Co-captains Jay Quintana and Wilson Gearhart, the l9-48-i949 Seahawk Basketeers enjoyed a highly successful season. During the course of hardwood operations the Seahawks posted a neat 17 won and 9 lost record, compiled against many of the better small teams in the East and extending into the domain of some of the recognized powers. The i948-49 season will be remembered as the years during which two innovations were made in Wagner basketball circles. The first made its ap- pearance in the form of a road junket through Mary- land on which the Seahawks took the measure of Western Maryland, a quintet which later in the sea- son was destined to make the playoffs of the Mason Dixon Conference, and John Hopkins. The second and most important innovation was in the invitations extended to Wagner College by the Metropolitan Conference Committee, and the Middle Atlantic States Tournament Committee to participate in their respective tournaments.
