WITH a deep sense of pride and satisfaction this, the l949 Kallista is respectfully dedicated to Mr. Virgil Markham, Chairman of the English Department of Wagner College, author of note, and one of those distinguished men honored by inclusion in Who's Who in America . Professor Markham received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University and his Master of Arts from the University of California. After teaching at the University of California and other schools, in his free moments writing books, nine of which have already been published, Professor Markham joined the Wagner Family in l9-42. Friend, teacher, and author, he has been first a friend to all who have been privileged to know him, and second, a teacher, conscientious in his efforts to impart of that great wealth of knowledge at his command. Contained in the tremendous output of poetry by Pro- fessor Markham's illustrious father, Edwin Markham, is a very short poem, the last two lines of which read: But love and I had the wit to win: We drew a circle that drew him in!
