The cheerleaders make a great effort in leading the fans to cheer their teams on to victory. Not only, though, do the students show their spirit in just sports and competitions but also in giving to their fellow human beings Above: For spirit day the cheerleaders asked the teachers to wear pajamas, and Mrs. Schaffter got into the spirit by showing up in this costume. The li- brary was freshly carpeted as was the main office. Computers are the in thing at WHS and many students spend their free time in the new com- puter room. Mr. Neff now has his own office and video tape center which is next to the incoming TV studio being built at WHS by Warner cable. New faces of incoming freshman and a cou- ple of teachers are expected every year. One thing for sure, if you haven't seen WHS lately, you haven't seen WHS. Fad ! Fa ds! WHS students are never considered old fashioned when it comes to styles. Their choice of clothing reflects their personality and Wadsworth, definate- ly, has a variety. Punks and Preps are the ultimate fashions, but blue jeans will forever be around. Some peo- ple describe Punks as people who wear outrageous, funky clothes. Preps wear expensive, designer clothes with trade marks to be seen and have everything monogrammed. These styles are easily recognized while walking through the halls, as ev- eryone follows one of these fads. An- other amusing facet of being a twin is the fact that they can fool people, usu- ally without even trying. Although many twins enjoy the state they are in, they still feel that they are constantly being compared and that they are not seen as the individuals they really are. Another problem that twins have to go through is having their birthdays on the same day. CTo some it is a real painlj 411: yf , X, 1 Left! Christmas ssembl 41 , ,,,, Every year WHS carries on the tra- dition of holding the Donkey Basket- ball game, the Christmas program, and the Snowball Dance and this year was no exception. The annual basketball game gives the students a chance to compete with the faculty and even the audience can feel the defeat or victo- ry. Around Christmas, everyone gath- ers together in the gym for a chance to see Santa Claus and his elves give out special gifts for those in need of a little humiliation. There are two guys from Sweden here this year, Lars Thelin, l8, from Vastervik, Sweden and Per Tunestam, l8, from Borlange, Sweden. Lars lives with Edward and Martha Ruch. His fa- vorite subject is physics and he likes the school organized teams and clubs. Per's favorite subject is Basic Com- puter Programing. He mentioned sev- eral differences between our high school and his. They are required to take only 9 years. After that they can work or study several more years. They don't have to pay for their lunches. Both mentioned that there were no major differences in the cul- ture of their country and ours. Japan is also represented at Wads- worth by Eiji Arito, l8, and Miki Fuku- shima, l8. Miki lives in Machida, a sub- urb of Tokyo, Japan. She has two youn- ger sisters. At her school in Japan, the students sweep the school themselves. They don't have study hall and they eat lunch in their classroom. A noted difference in the two cultures in that in Japan most women are just house- wives. They don't have many parties and their biggest celebration is New Year. Miki's favorite subject is choir. Eiji has one older brother and lives in Tokyo, Japan, but while here he is staying with Raleigh and Irene Moon. A few differences that Eiji noted be- tween the two cultures is that in Jpaan one must take off one's shoes before entering a house. Also not many people in Japan have cars. Most use some form of public transportation. It is costly to obtain a driver's license. Wadsworth High School's own stu- dent, Kay Stubbs, is leaving for a year to experience a challenging change. Australia is her goal. By chance seeing something in the paper about a pro- gram, she applied and was accepted to go to Australia. She has heard that their school system is harder than ours here, and that uniforms are to be worn. Nevertheless, she is eagerly looking forward to the upcoming year. Our newest student just came in at the end of the first semester. She's from Columbia, South America, and her name is Claudia Nishi. Most students agree that weekends are time for fun and relaxation. A fa- vorite activity of many kids is to get together and party on Friday and Sat- urday nights. Usually when there is a football or basketball game a large amount of students show up to cheer the Grizzlies on to victory. Some kids choose to spend their time with their favorite sweetheart, going to movies. or hanging out at McDonalds. Other students like to spend their spare time making money going to work, babysit- ting, or other odd jobs. All in all most kids find time to get some sleep and on Sunday nights they finish up their last minute homework. The Varsity B-ballers started the season with an exciting double-over- time victory over Brecksville, the pre- season Pioneer Conference favorite. The victory gave the team inspiration and set the tone for the season. The Grizzlies had the drive and determina- tion to finish as Co-Champions in the Conference with Brecksville at 9-3. Tammy Paul Bihn When the Sophomores leave the IOth grade behind, they will leave the teachers also but they will never for- get them. The English teacher who could get a social attitude from a Dick and Jane Reader will be left. The Biol- ogy teacher who always wanted more eye contact will be replaced. The Ge- ometry teacher who gave up trying to explain the difference between a pos- tulate and a theorum will be substitut- ed. The Driver's Ed. instructor who taught them the difference between the accelerator and the brake will be towed away. They and so many others will be left behind yet the knowledge they gave to the Sophomores will nev- er be forgotten. Top right: Before the bell rings, Mr. Hatch goes over a test with a student. And make life with its problems much easier to face . . . Grant me faith and courage and put purpose in my days. And show me how to serve Thee in the most effective ways So all my education, my knowledge and my skill, May find its true fulfillment as I learn to do Thy Will . . . And may I ever be aware in everything I do That knowledge comes from learning And wisdom comes from You. -HELEN STEINER RICE Which road E i y, Leaving the scene of school life three dedicated members of the Wadsworth School System have decid- ed to pursue a retired life. Mrs. Schneider, attendance clerk, Mr. Ken Rasor, vocational teacher, and Mr. Martin Cramp, also in the vocational area, have served faithfully in Wads- worth School System for a number of years. The students thank them for their years of service,to make the school a better place. Beyond the horizon of the known- the well-familiar school and city of Wadsworth-is an unexplored space Cunexplored by the students, that isj as yet, but after graduation the infinite possibilities on which to place a stu- dent's attention stump them. Each of the students will choose a path differ- ent from the others'. Each student has something different awaiting him be- yond the horizon. No one knows where he'll be in 5 years nor in 30 years. Maybe some day a graduate of Wadsworth High School will become the president of the United States, the first person on Mars, or the first doc- tor to perform an intricate surgery. However, not everyone will become so famous. Some will sit in a hot stuffy office, or labor until their muscles ache, trying to scrape enough money together to buy their next meal. Some may not even live a year after gradu- ation, but be killed in some tragic acci- dent or die of some terrible disease. Now, as the student looks beyond the horizon to greater challenges may this future be bright. Keep looking upl Y 1 - .. l Will You Take? yi,
