Let's look at that wordp let's think about it. Yes, Wadsworth holds many meanings for us, but have you ever noticed what happens to that word when the first four letters are removed? We get an- other meaningful word, worth. This year the annual staff has built your book around this word worth. On some of the pages we have inserted quotations which depict the worth of every phase of our school life. What is school worth to you? Oh, some may say that they wouldn't give two cents for ity but those same people really know it's worth much more than that puny amount to them and to everyone who attends. - Lfwgj! P ,ww M.. We l i This book has proof on every page to show you how worthwhile it was to you to be a part of the experiences which were shared in the '57-'58 school year. You'll look through this book many times -sometimes just to leaf quickly through to find the face or name of someone you don't want to forget, sometimes to recall the thrill of a particularly rousing football or basket- ball game. At other times you'll want to sit down with your book and read every word of copy and study every face. Each time you read it you will discover more and more what W.H.S. was worth to you. 1 If F xi: I I ha- M E53 III w I I ff i Ig I A gull- 3115011155 SCHOOL LIFE ........ ACTIVITIES ..... SPORTS ...... This sentiment, though not entirely true, is probably expressed by many W.H.S. students during the dreary months of mid-winter. Activities break into that all- important school work to make the days more enjoyable. Who can forget the bonfire? The homecoming game? Who can forget the Y-Teen formals, T.A.C., and the disc- iockey dances? The speech tournament in which we cleaned up in every division, or the concerts which every- body was in, but which still managed to draw big crowds, or the class plays in which you forgot half your lines, but still could laugh afterwards-how many will forget these things? Yes, activities are fun, and they are also worthwhile. The student council has helped and improved W.H.S. in many fine proiects for the school, and groups such as N.F.L. and Honorary Rotarians are worthy to represent W.H.S. outside the school. Activities are what make school worth going to - true, but also the school is what makes activities worth going to. The stage crew aren't usually called upon to perform a task such as this, but Mr. Calvin's Volkswagen is so intriguing that they have to see what makes it tick. One of their regular iobs is setting up scenery and props for plays, assem- blies, and concerts. These boys also become quite proficient at operating the microphones and lighting facilities in our auditorium. Many times the members have to give up a Saturday afternoon or Sunday evening in order to assist in the production of a program not sponsored by the school. With the able supervision of Mr. Sears, the stage crew always gets the iob done, and gets it done right. Members of the stage crew can always find peace and quiet in their roost in the prop room. Well, guess we know who the industrious members in this organization ore, or is it that they didn't get to the furniture first? PHUJEETIUNISTS All of us will admit that one of the most enioy- able ways of spending a class period is watching a film. Educational films, with which we are occa- sionally blessed, are made possible through the efforts of the proiectionists and their advisor, Mr. Kreider. These boys are carefully trained at the beginning of the school year to maintain and operate the movie equipment, and are always willing to give up their study halls to show films. These films are obtained by Mr. Kreider and are available to any class requesting them. GX Louie has found the difficulty. Philip Wolf and Louie Lamson are doing a little repair work on one of the many machines which they have become proficient at operating. The Rotary Club of Wadsworth has provided a select group of some seventeen senior boys with the opportunity to participate in the weekly Ro- tary meetings. These boys, elected by their class- mates at the beginning of the school year, have a chance to see firsthand how a well-organized service club operates. The club entertains two of these boys every Tuesday noon for a month with an excellent meal, songs, and a speaker. These boys are indeed fortunate that there is such a generous club in our community. Mr. Burkholder, himself a Rotarian, explains the club's four way test to newly elected Honorary Rotarians Mike Miller and Mickey Miller. 'W as Ji I Q' r W--Qc., lt's a good thing this Gladstone has straps on it. Joe didn't bring home such a neatly packed suitcase, but he did bring home many memor- able happenings which occurred during his week's stay at Boys' State. Learning the fundamentals of state, county, and city government is one of the main purposes of Buckeye State. Each year three boys and two girls from the iunior class learn these funda- mentals. A miniature state is set up, from the governor down to the lowest city office. For those who don't get elected to an office, there are banks and utility companies to be formed. While at Buckeye Girls' State, which was held at Capital University in Columbus, Carol and Valle, along with the other girls, were taken on a tour of the governor's mansion and the Capitol building in Columbus. Joe, Bill, and Jack found that at Buckeye Boys' State, which was held at Camp Perry, the living conditions weren't the best. When it rained, some of the buildings leaked, and the beds got wet. Buckeye State was an unforgettable and profitable experience enioyed by all five par- ticipants. ! llfm ROW! Have you ever tried to play baseball when there is snow on the ground and you are almost frozen solid? Have you ever tried to avoid mud puddles as you run out onto the playing field? If you played baseball for W.H.S. during l957, you experienced both of these drastic changes in weather. With practice beginning in March, some of the players got cold. Finally, after the cold ended, the games be- gan. Then the rains came. Every morning before a game Coach Lyren would go out to the A.C. Field to see whether the field was hard enough to play on.
