Members of the Senior Class headed many of the student activities including student government, THE TIGER TALES, THE STUDENT PRINTS, and many clubs. The Senior Class provided many of the baseball, football, and basketball players. Much of the Senior year was spent preparing for graduation. The Students had to purchase call- ing cards, invitations, and diplomas. The Senior Class members were the guests of honor at the Junior-Senior Prom. It seemed as if the Junior year in high school just flew by in a never-ending series of events. In the fall, the Juniors sold magazine subscriptions to finance the Junior-Senior Prom. Even though it was a great deal of work, the end made the means rather pleasant. Mrs. London's homeroom received a second place rating for its float entry in the Homecoming Parade. The end of the Sophomore year marks the half-way point in one's high school career. Although not as eventful as the Junior or Senior year, the tenth grade too has its varied activi- ties. The Sophomores began thinking seriously about college and took many tests. Thev pro- vided the entertainment at the Junior-Senior Prom and helped with the bonfire at Homecoming. The Freshman year marks the beginning of a new phase in a student's life. During this year the Freshmen began to take a more active part in the school's extra-curricular activities. These students considered college in the distant future and were introduced to new methods of study. For the first time they took an active part in the Homecoming festivities. J) Freshmen attend their first Homecoming Dance with much excitement. 50 Dear Cadeshoro Sligh School. . . Junior English students attempt to understand the mysteries of the English language. Onglish Departinent Adds Much to Gach Students’ ©ducation In the English department at W.H.S. one learns to express himself in a correct man- ner. The students study the mechanics of English grammar, learn about famous writ- ers, write book reports and themes. They also become well acquainted with the li- brary through vocabulary words and other assignments done there. English students go over diagram of library before beginning work. 52 College preparatory students take courses in advanced algebra and trigonometry to secure a good background for college days ahead. Qld Oo frers a Varrety of Math Courses Algebra I students find there are other uses for ''x'’ and Cy besides spelling. The courses in Wadesboro High School's math department ranges from general math to ad- vanced mathematics, which include advanced algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and many other fields for the college bound students. Several math classes went on field trips to see a practi- cal application of the many things they had learned. The science courses offered at Wadesboro High School include general science, biology, chem- istry and physics. The chemistry and physics students learn about such things as Einstein's laws and the atom. The lab is put into use by both the chemistry and physics classes. The biology students learn about plant and animal life. The biology lab is also greatly helpful in allowing the students to see many things first hand. Physics problems may require after-class explanations. Tnterest in Sctence Ss Carrted Out in Four Courses { Biology students find the disecting of different typ es of fish very interesting. Two foreign languages are offered at Wadesboro High School. They are Frenchand Latin. Latin, offered for two years, provides the background for the study of modern languages. French is offered for three years. This year the first year students were taught by films with a mini- mum of English used in the classroom. Second and third year French students also used the films in addition to their other work. In third year French the students read THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO in French. Latin I students study last minute details before going into class. Students in Lanquage Departin ent Ma LY Take French and Latin. Third year French students learn by watching films. Civics students learn about their government through discussion. Stistory Departinent Ineludes Four Courses Wadesboro High School offers a variety of courses in history and social studies. The students are required to take United States and world history to encourage greater understanding of their own and other countries. Sociology and econom- ics and civics are also included among the social studies. Three years of home economics are offered at Wadesboro High School. Anew course being offered this year is a family living course for both boysandgirls. Ithelpsthem realize the problems of marriage and every- day living. Girls make lovely Christmas decorations to be used in their homes. ae ise tes aameaccrre ‘Home economics students find it a satisfying feeling to be able to make their own clothes. Commercial Depart ent Yrepares Students for the Business Oorlf Business students are taught the qualifications of an efficient office worker. In office practice, one may see the outcome of his work. The commercial classes prepare students to work immediately after graduation from high school. The courses being taught in- clude office practice, shorthand, bookkeep- ing, two years of typing, general business, and business arithmethic. Some business training is beneficial to any student whether he enters the business world or not. The healthand physical education course = Bec Pe AW1d NO ALBAVS MUSCULAR SYSTEM. is required for all freshmen. In this course they are taught several sports and become acquainted with healthful habits such as daily exercise and clean- liness. The important muscles and their functions are pointed out. The team had two successful years, with Wayne Lineberry finishing fourth in the state last year and did equally as well this season. Covington, C Little. ah eee OYHLS Lan’ The Wadesboro High School marching band began this season in a big cloud of dust as they scur- ried onto the football field on a fast cadence. This became a Tiger Band trademark as the sea- son progressed. With the exception of one game, the Tiger Band performed at all of the football games. Under the direction of Mr. Robert Ellwanger, the band proved once again tobe 'the best band in the land . The band has several changes this year. There is a new drum major, a solo twirler, and a solo strutter. The lettergirls acquired lances and a chief and a co-chief lettergirl. The majorettes also got new uniforms. 92 MR.
