STUDENT COUNCIL The 1978- 1979 Wade Carpenter Junior High Student Council is very large this year. There are about ninety-five members. The officers are Eric Meyer, President, Kathy James, Vice-President, Lisa Espinoza, secretary, Karla Moore, treasurerg Tracy Paz, Assistant secretary, and Gina Moore, assistant treasurer. The advisor is Mrs. Morales. Other teachers who help are Miss Cunningham, Mrs. Paz, Mr. Gonzales, Mr. Morales, and Ms. Miranda. Stuco members are divided into many committees and work on many projects. The Families-in-Need Committee raised money and collected food, clothing and toys at Thanksgiving and Christmas for needy families. The Foster Children Committee supports two girls from the orphanage in Nogales , Sonora . They provide the girls with clothes and supplies. The girls visited W.C.J.I-I. before Christmas and were presented gifts during the Teacher's Christmas Luncheon. The School Improvement Committee is in charge of continuing the landscaping around the school. This project has been going on for several years, and the school looks alot better because of the Stuco effort. Other Stuco committees include the Dance Committee, the Spirit Week Committee, and the . Almost- Anything - Goes Committee . Student Council is also in charge of the Teachers' Chrismaas Luncheon, the dances, including the annual Princess,Dance, the Mardi Gras, and the Awards Assembly at the end of the school year. PAPOOSE There are thirteen students who have worked all year on the Papoose staff. The advisor is Miss Becker who did most of the layouts and photography. The Papoose staff did something different this year to raise money. We sold advertisements and put them on a poster! calendar which was passed out to all students, teachers and advertisers. All together, the yearbook and the poster! calendar took alot of hard work. The calendar was difficult because the staff had to sell all the ads by a certain deadline . It was also difficult to find enough people or companies to buy the ads. The yearbook itself took alot of organizing, planning, and cooperation. The staff was small this year so everyone had many responsibilities. Our goal was to finish the yearbook so it will arrive in May.
