CHESS The Wade Carpenter junior High chess team had a difficult battle this year in the pre-high school chess league , but they won the respect of all the competing teams . . 4 y 3 w -A gm mr The chess team has room for an student who wants YQ' to leam or improve their game .yliach member must play every other member to determine their strength. Then they are placed in board order by strength forming teams A, B, and C. A team consists of five members. Every member is given an , f M- opportunity to play on team A at least once during ' the season. ' C. rf Every year in December All Star players are nominated by the coaches. This year Salvador Fragozo and jordan Marcus are two nominees. On March 3 are the playoffs for the two top teams from the north and the two top teams from the south. They battle it out to determine the southern , regional conference champions. L . On March 31, regional qualifiers are held. STUDENT COUNCIL The 1978- 1979 Wade Carpenter Junior High Student Council is very large this year. There are about ninety-five members. The officers are Eric Meyer, President, Kathy James, Vice-President, Lisa Espinoza, secretary, Karla Moore, treasurerg Tracy Paz, Assistant secretary, and Gina Moore, assistant treasurer. The advisor is Mrs. Morales. Other teachers who help are Miss Cunningham, Mrs. Paz, Mr. Gonzales, Mr. Morales, and Ms. Miranda. Stuco members are divided into many committees and work on many projects. The Families-in-Need Committee raised money and collected food, clothing and toys at Thanksgiving and Christmas for needy families. The Foster Children Committee supports two girls from the orphanage in Nogales , Sonora . They provide the girls with clothes and supplies. The girls visited W.C.J.I-I. before Christmas and were presented gifts during the Teacher's Christmas Luncheon. The School Improvement Committee is in charge of continuing the landscaping around the school. This project has been going on for several years, and the school looks alot better because of the Stuco effort. Other Stuco committees include the Dance Committee, the Spirit Week Committee, and the . Almost- Anything - Goes Committee . Student Council is also in charge of the Teachers' Chrismaas Luncheon, the dances, including the annual Princess,Dance, the Mardi Gras, and the Awards Assembly at the end of the school year.
