SPORT 1 The athletic program at Wade Carpenter junior High progressed this ye ar with our participation in the Delta Athletic Conference. The conference helps to introduce junior high students to enjoyable athletic aciivities. The main purposes of the Delta Conference are to develop physical skills, an awareness of ad- vanced skills needed in specific sports, a sense of loyalty, team play, and sportsmanship, respect for others, and an awareness of leadership responsibilities. The 1977-78 member schools of the Delta Athletic Conference were Amphitheater, Cross, Emily Gray, Flowing Wells, Marana, Oracle, Sahuarita, 'Sierra Vista, and Wade Carpenter. Boys' teams compete in football, cross country, basketball, wrestling, base- ball, and track. Girls' teams compete in volleyball, basketball, speedaway, softball, track, and gymnas- tics. Although Wade Carpenter did not compete'in F11 sports this year, we hope to develop them in the uture.
