I guess you know Bennie Davis is running for President on the Demo- cratic ticket and Bobby Schreiber is running for Vice President. Oh yes, Mary Ann Newton is Bennie's manicurist. Shirley Cownover is our city's greatest politi- cian, man or woman. They were our old classmates back in '54. Oh-that brings back wonderful memories. Just think! You, my old girl friend, now a mother of eight children, marrying after our graduation when you went to see your sister in Idaho and met that rich potato farmer! When I was at the polls I met Sammy French and Mary Jo Thompson fnow Mrs. Sammy Frenchl. Sammy is the pastor of the China Spring's Baptist Church. Sammy said that John French is a famous bathing suit designer in Paris. Lynn French and Elsie Swinscoe are his models. Gal, I have a new iob. l'm working for Turkey Lindsey, He publishes 3-D funny books. James Carpenter is our best customer. I ran into Mrs. James Jackson IAnn Beardenl yesterday in Waco. She said she was Fred Ferguson's secretary. Fred Lee has a sports column in Waco Times Herald. He's really good at predicting the outcome of games. Ann also said Holyce Buzbee and June Hudson are Bob Baker's head nurses. Bob is Waco's most prominent physician. JoNelle Ellis is his secretary. Lenard Stuessel designed Bob's new hospital and Allison Burt and Paul Swanson erected it. Say, have you heard that new record that Carol Ann King and Bobby Bryant recorded? It is a dilly, that is, if you like hillbilly music. I went to the wrestling matches Monday night and guess who was wrestling? Mahattaio Mitchell! In the ring they call her Hotsy the Great. Her opponent was Bessie. Henderson. Scooter Benkendorfer is Hotsy's manager and Leon Stelter is Bessie's. My oldest daughter went down to enroll in Baylor this fall. She said Curtis Owen was the band director. He has the finest band Baylor has ever had. She said Thomas Porterfield was teaching psychology and Harold Shumate was teach- ing physical education. I was watching TV the other night over at Barbara Gauntt's house. Franklin Choate has a program with Bob Hope. It's called Father and Son. Barbara is married to a traveling salesman. I got an invitation from Barbara Wooley today. They're giving Marian Kunze ISchreiberD a house warming party. The Kunzes are iust moving into their twenty room mansion in Detroit. Frank Fuentes and Ronald Wilkerson finally finished Baylor this spning. They're fighting over Mr. Wood's place as civics teacher. He's retiring at mid-term. !Continued in Activities Section page 1001 ,Q Q' Y .sv 1 ,fb fl - ' 'ffm v ,.4 13: XY . , n1ly 1, V 5 x mg u ' 1151 LL' lX? Coached by Mr. Pearson and captained by Danny Baxley, the Purple and White Warriors decended through their District games with only one defeat, it being at the hands of Gatesville our nearest rival. The Trojans played many colorful Non-District games, those being with teams such as Temple, winner of District 7-AA, Mexia, and Belton. Tech had two of the three leading hitters in the city, those being Jesse Ingram and Thomas Carpenter. After winning the District 20-A Championship, the Troians were stopped by Mart in Bi-District. Next season is the one to which we are looking forward. With all of the starting nine back plus many good reserves we should be in the tight for the championship. This year we are in District 7-AA along with such teams as Waco High, Temple, and Hillsboro. This is a strong District, and we will have a hard fight on our hands. They really make a great team. Guess who owns Suicide Bowl now? Calvin Meadors and Elmer Payne. Watch for car number double blank when you see their program on TV. Arthur Moeller is driving it. Every time I go to Waco l see Claude Jaynes and Dickie Johnson driving up and down the drag. Dickie finally lnade enough money to buy a '72 red Mercury convertible. I guess you remember when Betty Vorderkunz and Joyce Gascamp ran away from home. l've heard they're in the seal business. They live in Ukiaski, Russia, near the Bering Sea. Herschel Frey is the owner of a big night club in Waco now. I think they call it DeviI's Paradise. Norma Jean Taylor is his Cigarette Girl and Shirley Johnson is a hula hula dancer there. I went shopping last week. Layne's iDalel Department Store has some pretty good bargains. I was shocked to see Ellis Warrick and Sleepy Schaeper were clerks in the lingerie department. They were both so bashful, you know. Tech surely has a good football team this year. Tech's coaches are Alfred Allen and Fred Daniels. Their star players are Ronny and Tommy, Thomas Bledsoe's twin boys. George Wortham is now drawing a pension from the Sante Fe Railroad Com- pany. I heard Jimmy Baker and Gene Davis are working for the same company. They started out as hobos. They want to follow George's footsteps. V Say, Irene Opella and Helen Nussman are Waco's latest gossip. They own a barber shop. lt's been told that Thomas Tipton is getting a hair cut twice a week. I hear Peggy Swinnea has a good hobby. She's collecting empty whiskey bottles. She gets most of them from Thomas Carpenter, you know. Did you know that Gene Black and Alvis Dees are ianitors at Waco High? I always knew they were traitors. D I'm going to the State Fair with Marilyn iWattsl Hill next week. She's going out to see Robert make his first appearance as a barker for a freak show. lt's been advertised that Martha Bray is taking Sally Rand's place this year. James High's tent is next to hers. He is a famous snake charmer. Elizabeth Thomason and James Frazier were married last year. They moved into a beautiful house in California, but 'Elizabeth isn't happy and she's suing for divorce. Her grounds are that James iust sits and stares out the window at the house across the street. lMarilyn Monroe lives in it.l Did you read the headlines yesterday morning? Boyce Carroll, Bill Hawkins and Sylvester Sanchez, great explorers, are planning a rocket mission to Pluto. I noticed that Lowell Elliot has received the title of the world's greatest pinochle player. Remember Elmer Lott? He's still trying to get lrdell on the map. Joe McNamara has a huge farm out at Bosqueville. He's never married but l've noticed in Elizabeth Lyon's gossip column in the paper that Joe is seeing quite a bit of Nancy Vogelsang lately. She has taken Minnie Pearl's place on the Grand Ole Opera. Joe's foreman is Truett Sorley. He is a pretty good mechanic and is kept pretty busy with all that machinery of Joe's. Truett was working for Don Daniels down at the Salvation Army, but he decided he was tired of city life and moved to the country. Paulina. Lasseter Know Mrs. Joe Bob Bankstonl has a first class nursery out Robinson way. Her best customer is Louise CSharpl Norman. She and Wayne have ten kids. They are very thankful to have such an adequate nursery so near by because their oldest child is six years old. Bill Loftin is now a captain of the Space Patrol. Benny May is the governor of Cheese Valley on Mars. Let's see-what happened to the rest of our classmates? Oh, yes, Alvin Dryer is in the movies. He's taken Roy Roger's place and Lois Boram is demonstrating the new atomic power cook stove for Lone Star Gas. Oh no! I smell my beans burning and Jack hates burned beans. I had better run. They emerged with a two won five lost record. The team made progress with each game showing that they had the spirit and the determination of champions. The season opened with the loss to a more experienced East team. The game could have gone either way, but due to inexperience, Tech lacked scoring punch. The next two games were losses to the North and to the champion South Junior teams. The West game proved that lack of experience, the team's greatest weak- ness, was being overcome. The Little Troians fought a big West team to a stand- still only to fumble their chances away twice inside the West Junior five yard line. The first win was registered in the game with Reagan and the sensation of win- ning proved to be an added incentive to the team. The Tech team played the best game of the season against La Vega only to lose a heartbreaker when they fumbled on the La Vega one yard line with first and goal facing them. La Vega completed a long desperation pass in the last quarter of the game to walk away the victor. The climax of the season took place on Temple's Woodson Field when the boys showed championship spirit by overcoming a two touchdown lead by the Central team in the fourth quarter. These two drives by the Tech Juniors made T953 a successful season. r 1 Mak . 5 ur BASKETBALL TEAM -an Front row: Manager Bob Davis, Billy Curry, Sammy Cardwell, James Kirkpatrick, Carl Garlin, Bill Meier Manager Royce Daily.
