Moving Up, Moving On The year began moving up with the hiring of a new principal, Willie Williams. His attitude of Tiger Pride inspired the students and faculty to strive for the improvement of academics and school spirit. Self-discipline was stressed and Waco High began its journey back to being THE BEST in the city. ... and then came a time for moving on when Wayne Gardner resigned from his head coach- ing position. Gardner had been a devoted Tiger leader for 17 years, Even though this loss made many hearts sink, it didn't keep WHS from moving up. In january, all eyes were focused on Waco High when Gardner's successor was announced. Centex Coach of the Year, Derrell Carlile, joined the Tiger family and dedicated him- con't p. 8.
