Precious school years that are so dear Will very quickly disappear. As time is passing faster each day, I wonder what will be left to say. Will all my friends be gone forever? Or are they scouting out new endeavors? When school's no more and I'm on my own Life will be of still a different tone. Each dawn approaches with more questions, Leaving me with more hesitations. As I strive to reach each goal All I accomplish will affect my soul. 3, if ' x- r Q , Q 5 1 fm gg? X ,Nw ,Mgg MQW? This is the day Waco High rocked around the clock , starting with a Be-Bop Assembly' sponsored by the cheerleaders. The agenda included a Fonz contest, bunny hop contest, and featured Gerald Bolton as Elvis Presley. During the day, many guys were seen with slicked back hair and T-shirts, while girls were seen with pony tails and bobby socks. That night, students be-boped at the Bunny Hop featuring Fred Clinesmith as Ferd the Nerd from station T-E-R-D. Vley l-DQ bk Gerald Bolton- H-E-L-Pl! Chris Castillo- A-A-A-YY! Fonz Contestants. Pat Swanton- You're no bunny till some bunny loves you!! W 1 3 Pep Rallies and Assemblies Liven Up School Days Assemblies are one of the main fac- tors contributing to the unity of the student body. Students and teachers were enthusiastic at our assemblies which included pep rallies, the Be-Bop program, the Rick Presley show, and several programs of a religious nature. Cameras caught many people un- aware and proved very few were too shy to take part in the fun. s L.-M rf F 2 I wax kk -k A Q'a'i 4 , ., gfis' . p 1930? 5,1 A ' xg 5 44 V52 A f b, , ,il 5 15 Z? 3 5? They work all year raising money for scholarships to be given to Waco High seniors. The first program was an open house in September featuring coffee in the library and a chance to meet the Waco High Faculty. Mr. Kieth Geisler of McLennan Community College spoke at their second program in October. He informed parents and students about early admission to college for high school Seniors. In December PTA spon- sored a Christmas Concert featuring the Tiger Band and Choir. Ninth graders and parents attended a special orientation in March with Waco High PTA and faculty. The 310,487 total was the most ever collected during the annual drive. Students, faculty and PTA members at Waco High won third place for the number of tickets they sold. Proceeds go to S500 schalorships for seniors planning to attend college. Scholarship chairman Mrs. Bill Foster said about 20 scholarships would be given with the money. Last year 16 were awarded. Waco High had a volley-ball game between the German and Spanish clubs to raise money for the project. Waco High Students Sz Exes Celebrate Homecoming Homecoming is an exciting event which highlights each fall quarter. It is filled with various traditional ac- tivites. These activities are the exes tea, bonfire, Homecoming presenta- tion of candidates which made top ten, Pep rally, and of course the big game followed by the annual Homecoming dance. Nominations for Queen and un- derclassmen Princess were made through the Sr., Jr., and Soph. homerooms. There were ten semifinalists and then five finalists. The exes tea began promptly at 2:00 p.m. on Homecoming afternoon. Thanks to the efficient Student Government, cookies and punch were provided at the exes tea. Finally the time came that everyone had anticipated. The big game with the Connally Cadets. There was a large crowd of exes as well as stu- dent body members. You could feel the excitement every where. Halftime was truly the climax! The 1976 Homecoming Queen is...Miss Sheryl Stockton, runner up Miss Audrey Scott, Junior Princess Miss Denise Oliverio, and Sophomore Princess Miss Dana Adams. Full of spirit, the Waco High Tiger team defeated the Cadets. After the game the Tigers and their fans celebrated their victory at the gym. Homecoming '76 was a great success. ZS !! Student Government Representives mingle with Waco High exes and serve punch and cookies at the exes tea. l Conflagation Ignites Tiger Spirit Dimensions of Life Bonfires seem to always bring the Tiger student body back to school after regular school hours. And once again there was a large turnout on that chilly autumn evening in September. The 1976 bonfire started its roar at approximately 7:30 p.m. sparking spirit throughout the crowd anticipating a victory. Finally this important event climaxed into an inferno of excite- ment. Yelling for that wonderful Tiger team, singing the school song, and wondering who would reign as the 1976-77 Homecoming Queen was all a part of the bonfire pep rally. Behind the scenes, the Student Government put forth much effort as they went from place to place try- ing to obtain wood. After moving the preliminary structure several times the Student Government members finally decided on an ap- propriate spot. As the very last spark of the con- flagation diminished, the Waco High student body knew in their hearts that their spirit would shine brightly in the game against the Connally Cadets. a. The new classifica- tion not only rekindled that once proud Waco High tradition that earned the respect of beaten op- ponents, but also brought spirit and excitement back into the school and to its students. Waco High won its first pre-season game decisively, with a 28-6 victory over the Univer- sity Trojans. The Tigers won the next two games defeating the Jesuit Rangers 21-10 and the Navasota Rattlers 27-6. All through the pre-season play the Tigers worked hard to prepare themselves for the long district season ahead of them. The Tigers proved that they were ready by defeating their old arch rivals, the X Richfield Rams, with a score of 42- 14. This fame will probably be remembered by Waco High fans for many years to come. Not only did it prove to everyone that the Tigers were on top, but also that we were here to stay, which, after this year, is something the Rams will never forget. During the pre-season games the Tigers massive offensive line blocked and opened holes for the Tiger backs, while the defense shut down opposing offenses. The 1976 football season, ending with an 8-2 record, is the best that Waco High has seen in twenty years, and with such a fine team and great school spirit, it's no wonder. .I T.1rfli-.iffmgpif .sfixfwm N ' H N - 1 'L' is i' , .. . i K --,f az vH:ssss'2rH:'ssyfi: . x , .,,,...,.. . .. The Tiger's first and only touchdown came on a 13- yard scoring passplay. The Tigers gained six more points on two field goals giving the Tigers a 12-0 win over the Cadets. Waco High dominated the final statistics, leading in first downs Q17- 8J and running yardage C51-195. The Tiger defense stopped Connally cold and caused two fumbles, intercep- ting twice. Waco High lost their second district game 21-13 to the LaVega Pirates. The Tigers came close several times to scoring but they always bogged down. In their third game the Tigers came back with a 13-07 win over the Jefferson Moore Lions. The Tigers blasted their way through the second half by defeating Marlin 21-7 and Gatesville 21-14. A Tiger coach is someone that teaches classes all day and then stays after school to prepare his players for a game. A group needs a certain factor to pull them together into a winning team. Our coaches seemed to be that fac- tor, and a closeness between the members of the team did develop. Even though a district title was not ours, we had a very strong season and a great coaching staff. The Tigerettes season began vic- toriously, though. After winning consolation at the Waco Annual Invitational Tourna- ment and the McGregor Tourna- ment, the girls were somewhat con- fident. The Tigers then went on to defeat Marlin, Midway, Connally, and LaVega in the first half of the season. The team fought with deter- mination as their faithful fans were always there to back them. As the varsity season came to an end they had won less than half the games. The Tigers were coached by Jessie Williams. Long practices and ex- hausting workouts kept the Tigers on their toes. Golden Voice members discuss the possibilities of making an excellent rating at 11-AAA contest. Seniors do share some things with Sophomores. The Golden Voices and Girls Choir participated in several events through the year. These activities were singing for rest homes, giving Christmas concerts, and going to contest. While attending UIL con- test the Golden Voices received two division class ratings of excellent. These awards were won in concert and in sight-reading. George Uland directed the compsite choir at Waco High and North Junior High. Golden Voices performed several selections at Graduation. These selections were Oh Clap Your Hands, I Can Sing Rainbow, and The Road Not Taken. The Golden Voices and Girls Choirs add so much to the atmosphere of Waco High. On the average, air conditioning accounts for about half of summertime electric bills. Here are ways you can hold down the cost of air conditioning and still enjoy its comfort. Central Systems 1. Set thermostat on 780, or higher, during the summer. Turn unit off if you'll be away from home several days. 2. Keep equipment at top operating efficiency. Have it checked seasonally by qualified serviceman. 3. Check filter every 30 days. Dirty filters cause equipment to use excessive electricity. lf filter is permanent, clean by manufacturer's directions, if it's disposable, it should be replaced when dirty. 4. Keep furniture, draperies away from air outlets and returns. Clean grills often. 5. Close draperies and blinds to keep out direct sunlight. 6. Keep fireplace damper closed. 7. Proper home insulation keeps the heat out, cuts energy use. insulation questions? Call TP8tL. 8. Shade on roof and walls can reduce energy needed to cool. But trim trees, shrubs away from outside compressor unit. Keep it free of leaves, debris. If air flow is blocked, unit uses more energy. 9. Weatherstrip doors and windowsg caulk cracks to prevent drafts and cool air loss. 10. Keep windows closed. Open outside doors as little as possible. Window Units Follow above suggestions, plus these: 11. Buy units with highest energy efficiency ratio QEERJ. Uses less electricity to cool. If EER is not on sales tag, ask for it or figure it yourself. Divide wattage into BTU capacity. Both figures are on unit. 12. Place unit where it'll get as little direct sun as possible. 13. Aim air outlets at lower half of doorway to next room to allow warm air from that room to enter at the doortop for recooling, recirculation. 14. Never vent air conditioner into garage. Ventilation is usually too poor for top performance of your unit. Conserve electricity and you help conserve one or more of the fuels needed to produce it. Conserve fuels and you help assure that there will be enough to meet essential needs for electricity in the future. When you pass a TP8tL office, warehouse, generating plant or other facility, you'Il see that we've turned off all non-essential lighting. And, in as many other ways as possible, TP8rL is reducing its own uses of electricity. lf you would like additional information on conserving electricity, call the Customer Service Representative in the TP8rL Office. iz TEXAS POWER 84 LIGHT COMPANY A tax-paying, investor-owned electric utility X,.Lf f 'L Ja BAPTIST CHURCH Harry L.
