Pop,' Werner instructs Willie Brown and Ruben Hernandez on the steel lathe. Pop works with students in doing layout work in planning their projects. PopI' Werner has been teaching industrial arts for the past 43 years, and was voted The Outstanding Teacher of Industrial Arts Award in 1968. He has built the trophy cases in the halls, the large bulletin boards, as well as much of the shelving in the library. Besides his industrial works, Pop' was the assistant basketball coach in 1926-1927, and he coached and trained the cheerleaders. This, however, does not end his numerous talents. In addition to having been active in sports, and his continuing years of teaching Industrial Arts, Pop Werner started the first WHS male quartet. In community service, Pop,' started the first Cub Scout pack in Waco in 1929, and was a cub scout master for 10 years. He is a member of the Waco Masonic Lodge and an rider at the First Presbyterian Church where he has served as youth worker, soloist, and choir director.
