THE MID-CENTURY CLASS 'Tis now past half of the century, And great things have come from this land The atom was smashed late in 'forty, And Einstein's new theory was planned. But even greater happenings Are on the way, my friend, For Waco High School's graduates Are coming 'round the bend. Now let us pause for a moment To review their history, Though how they ever got so far Remains a mystery. In grade one they were angelic fAn illusion held by mammyj Personally we thought their halos Could possibly use Bon-Ami. All will remember this honored class CLongfellow could not consentl For departing they left behind them Footprints in wet cement. llflay festivals then came later-- The spectators were most kind-- When Johnny, quite by accident, In ribbon was entwined. Oh, the players didn't look so big On fields of the junior Highs, And when they shed their football gear Their muscles all vanished, poor guys. But you'll have to admit Though their size wasn't much That Junior High football Never since has been such. The Newcomier's Shindig was paramount With the freshmen of Waco Highg The mid-century class had a gay old time While the Seniors muffled a sigh. And now our honored mid-century class Is ready to graduateg However, on their success in life We'd hate to speculate. From this class there'll be no Einstein Or even a mere near miss , But they'll be supremely happy If Ignorance IS bliss. We'd not get sentimental Here on the very last verse, So we'll say to this class, We salute you! CAfter all you could have been worse.J -Jeanne Fauquet
