W D ' this volume of the Daisy Chain e to Mr. Skinner as our way of saying thank you for the years that he has spent at Waco High work- ing not -only with the band but co-operating with all phases of student activity, using tremendous amounts of patience, of which he seems to command an unlimited quantity. Since he came to Waco High School in 1932, Mr. Skinner has brought our band from thirty pieces to its present concert strength of ninety pieces, he has given us a band that has been rated as first division every year since it entered the c-ompetitions. Under Mr. Skinner's direction the Waco High School band has won five straight first places as the best marching band in the nation and three first places as the best playing band in the nation, a record equaled by no other band in the state of Texas. In recognition of his services to the music education of the state, Mr. Skinner was in 1940 elected presi- dent of the Texas Music Educator's Association and has for the last four years been chairman of the University Interscholastic League Committee to pick the music for the band contests. In addi- tion to all this, he is called on to judge a-bout fifteen band clinics a year. Yet he always has time to direct the band at the football games, basketball games, and the assemblies, and to sponsor the Music Ap- preciation Club. On behalf of the 1949 Senior Class of Waco High School, we, the staff of the Daisy Chain, say, Thanks, Mr. Skinner.
