But the Tigers came back in the form that carried them through bi still and even scored on them. VVaco' Kazanas broke through and blocked In 1946, Coach Bill Duliose, with the able assis- Price, molded together a Tiger team which High traditions and won district and bi- for the fourth consecutive year. Placing on the all-state team, guard Nick Kazanas, tance of Carl upheld VVaco district titles only one man this Tiger squad had no outstanding players, It was just a good all-round team with an extra good defense. It was this defense that pushed this great team to the quarter-finals. WACO 6-AUSTIN 14 Waco started its season with a non-district game against the Austin Nlaroons, who were rated first in the state at that time. It was the green Waco High Tigers against the seasoned Veterans from Austin High. will. Both of their scores came in the second the second half and showed mid-season form, -district. In fact, in the second quarter, the Bulldogs threatened to score, but their drive bogged down on the VVaco twenty. It was late in the third quarter when Blackstock, Griffith, and Dozier teamed up to lead an attack to the five. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Dozier went over for the first score of the game. Later four passes brought the ball to the four- yard line. Griffith went to the two, and Dozier missed by inches. Then Griffith took it over for the final score. The Bulldogs had a good team which held a better Tiger team scoreless for three quarters, but it just couldn't beat the Tigers. WACO 19-WAXAHACHIE 12 WACO 28-WOODROW WILSON 0 This great Tiger team took -on the Wildcats from Dallas and at the end of the first half, there was no doubt as to the outcome. VVaco scored first after a drive of 40 yards in the first quarter with Dozier passing to Blackstock for the score. In the second quarter, Dozier took the ball over for two more touchdowns, climaxing drives of 60 and 30 yards. In the third quarter, the Tigers were deprived of a score by an off-side penalty. Late in the fourth quarter, Waco finished the job of defeating the Woodrow wilson squad when Kincannon passed to Patton for the final score. WACO 21--HILLSBOR0 0 Waco High began the district games by playing Hillsboro in Hillsboro before a capacity crowd. The Tigers downed a stubborn Eagle team, which was determined but just didn't have the goods. Dozier scored twice after long drives. The last score came when Dozier passed to Murray. Waco's pass protection showed great improve- ment as Dozier had plenty of time to heave his aerials. The Hillsboro eleven made only one serious threat. In the third quarter, a drive was sparked by' a 36 yard run but the Tigers stiffened and the Eagles were unable to score. VVac0 showed fans in this game that Coach Duliose had built a powerful ground attack as Well as aerial attack. The initial score came when VVaco drove from the Waxahachie 47 for the tally with Blackstock going over. The Indians stormed back and scored on a 55 yard pass in the second half.
