Don Ed Smith, and Robert Tucker. T the football game October IQ, 1945, spectators waited eagerly for the presenta- tion of the new football queen. VVhich lovely candidate had been chosen? Then from the side of the field came five open convertibles, each conveying a high candidate for football queen. Each of the girls wore an evening dress and carried mums. The bouquets had been presented by VVolfe's, Reed's. lNIuhl's, and Blantonls floral shops. Kay Tidwell escorted .lean Harman, Hollis Chatham, Peggy Hicksg lklayor George Stone, Robbie Lochridgeg Don Ed Smith, lklarjorie Stallardg and Robert Tucker, Barbara Schwan. ' Stepping out of the convertibles, the candidates and their escorts walked to the center of the field. YVith Bill Bailey as radio announcer, VValter Fadal presented the 1945-46 football gueen-Robbie Lochridge! A watch was presented to Robbie from L. Fred and Son, jewelers, and the team gave her a football which had been autographed. Coronado jewelers presented Peggy Hicks, the runner-up, with a small football on a necklace. Amid the music of the band and applause from the crowd, the queen, the other candidates, and their escorts drove from the field. The next morning the group met in front of Peggy Hicks' house to pose for the camera-a fitting climax to one of the most exciting contests of the school year.
